2 big moves
Completely reasonable and plausible trade, may even be slightly less (less than Casey and or no 3rd)

If we can make them this yr we should be OK next
$24M off the books with ufa/reasons (Blackwood gone). As long as Bratt and Timo don't go insane. But were a cap team. With regard to your Timo trade, I would not give up that much. Make that trade after the season after Bratt signs and you know where our picks ends up. Holtz and Ecklund (SJ) are buddies I see that happening, but unless we're 32nd, I don't offer the 1st+

I'd say yes to this but I'm one of the dumber sharks fans.
My logic is NJD's 23' is going to be so late because they're so good this year, so why not get a right shot defensemen with a great name at 20th OA to go along with Holtz. Screw it

Like it. Leaves plenty of room for deadline moves, Mercer extension, etc. Two years for Sharangovich walks him straight to UFA, so I’d tack two more on there (at probably $4-4.5 million).

I feel like Tatar would stay for the same he's making now to just be happy, but Wood will be a goner. He's getting paid by someone thinking he is a 2LW.

New Jersey declines. If Chicago wants that 2nd overall pick as badly as it appears, they will have to pony up. There are lots of teams interested.

I don't know, I'm not a NJD fan but you have to be blind to not see the deep prospect pool and the young talent that's getting a solid footing in the NHL on that team. they are 2-3 pieces away from a playoff contender with ample cap space, starting Goalie top 4 LD and another gifted top 6 guy and this team could be dangerous.
combine that with a good fan base and the shorter travel schedule being in the met division and they seem to me a team players would be interested in going to.

Future after some trades
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NHLfan10506</b></div><div>"what we want" vs "what we need"
Our offense is developing well.
Getting to next level won't come with the addition of a goal-scorer.
Our offense will take the next step when we get better play in front of net and in corners.
We have plenty of skill on perimeter. We don't waste possessions there.
We waste them in front of the net without screens, tips, deflections, someone pouncing on rebounds. (This is our #1 need by far)
And we waste them when we cannot sustain pressure by losing puck in corners (we are fine in neutral zone, o-zone entries)
Defensively, we need more shot-blocking from wings (we allowed more shots from point to hit net than anyone).
DeBrincat would be nice, (especially for the power play).
But he is not likely to lead to many more wins as the price would suggest.
If we spending big this off-season, it should be on (1) goalie, (2) heavy skill forward.</div></div>
It’s so weird how whenever a good player is available for a high price a teams fans will try and talk themselves out of it. (Trust me my team was rumored to and did aquire Seth Jones I know what I’m talking about.) DeBrincat absolutely makes the devils a whole lot better, and adding a 40…soon to be 50…goal scorer to the devils lineup absolutely takes their offense to the next level.

DeBrincat is more than just a perimeter player, he fights for pucks in the corners and plays both ways. He’s far more than just a Powerplay guy and a lethal shot.

"pile of trash"
Holtz is a very high level prospect, Smith is 22 year old coming off a bad season but pretty good rookie year as well as two time WHL defenseman of the year and CHL defenseman of the year once, so still good pedigree and a good candidate to bounce back, Gritsyuk is the KHL rookie of the year at 21, and then a pretty versatile, still somewhat valuable player in Zacha. That's not to say this offer gets Pastrnak, but it's not a "pile of trash" either. smh
