Yes, let’s trade a 2nd and a decent defenseman who has amazing possession numbers with Petry for a $4.5 million dirty defenseman who was just a healthy scratch in the playoffs.

Summer trades
1. Montreal doesn't make the Edmonton trade to play Puljujarvi and Kotkaniemi on the 4th line and even IF they made that trade their would need to be a high pick or prospect coming back as well or Neal would need to have 50% retained.
2. Montreal would OS Dunn or Sergachev or another top young LHD before going after McDonagh and his 6.75 Mil for 6 years. BTW they could OS either of Dunn or Sergachev for that and be further ahead

Summer trades
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Club_de_Hockey_le_Canadien</b></div><div>Don't resign McNiven he'll never play a game. Oilers won't accept. Don't give up Mete and Byron (the two most underrated players on the team) for Zach Smith and Maata. Galchenyuk never worked the first time, we don't want him back. Voynov shouldn't even be an option, I shouldn't need to explain that.</div></div>
Mcniven is a very capable backup at the AHL level with even starter potential. He hasn't been given a fair shot IMO because of the logjam we have due to Price contract and the signing of inefficient backups. Add to that the potential Lindgren once displayed and now Primeau and the other new guy coming in.... someone has got to go and I believe that will be Lindgren. Mcniven is young enough that I can even see him backing up Primeau in the future.
Regarding Mete and Byron.
The Habs greatly screwed up with Metes entry and development out of desperation and while I don't want to move him the time is now while he's young, somewhat efficient and has some value. Unless we move guys like Kulak, Chiarot, Folin, Alzner and with new guys coming in now or very shortly (ie, Romanov, Norlinder, Struble, Harris). The left side of defence is loaded for years to come and there just isn't any space for him. Now's the time to cut ties.
Byron is a spark plug and has a reasonable contract for a multiple 20 goal scorer. He's getting older and the style he plays makes him more injury prone. Much like Mete he still brings value to this team ATM with his clutch goals and PK ability but like Mete we have an abundance of bottom 6 wingers. Time to move him is also now while his value is at the highest it will ever be.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CD282</b></div><div>21 years old and doesn't know how to defend? That calls for even more caution.
Poehling got just 5 even strength points in 36 AHL games this year. That's really, really bad.
For reference, Puljujarvi had 38 even strength points in 56 games in an equivalent league this year. That's nearly 5x the production rate.
Also, consider the 70.13 GF% Puljujarvi posted vs the 46.88 GF% Poehling posted, and the fact that they are just 8 months apart.
No way Holland is going to take this deal.</div></div>
Where did I say he didn't know how to play defense? He's a defensive first center (Which is why he's projected as a 3rd line PKing guy)
You are comparing two completely different players with Puljijarvi. One guy can't play defense and and the other was instructed to focus on playing defense first. That doesn't mean he can't play defense, that means focus on playing defense.

My Karlson trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SmartGM</b></div><div>Eugene Melnyk is more concerned about his money don't look at the players here look at the money saving. Weber next year will be paid 6 millions or less starting next year. In Byron you get an Ottawa native that scores more points than Bobby Ryan for 5 millions less. I agree it can be tweaked but you get the picture.</div></div>
While I understand and completely agree that Eugene is the worst, it still doesn't seem realistic to me. Maybe realistic isn't the right term because it's the NHL. But Ottawa just doesn't have to take back that amount of money in the trade because there are teams that would offer better cheaper options to both players. Trading Bobby Ryan is going to be tough and personally I think it's stupid they are weighing down Karlsson's trade value by including Ryan.

Based on rumors
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>FullSend</b></div><div>I think I’ve made it pretty clear Montreal wants a lot for what Pacioretty is realistically worth so we should stay far away from him. Wouldn’t trade Nuge alone for him based on position worth, statistics, advanced stats, age with where they’re put in the lineup, with Pacioretty obviously having put in more of a place to succeed than Nuge, the only thing he has on Nuge is his contract. Also, Obviously Petry isn’t worth Klefbom..</div></div>
The rest is debatable, but Pacioretty being put in a position to succeed is hard to argue when he hasn't had a legitimate 1st line C. Pacioretty with McDavid would be good to see, and I'd almost make the trade for that reason alone.
Problem is that Pacioretty has no value to the Oilers this season, so they aren't going to give up what it would take to acquire him anyway, unless they are pretty sure they can re-sign him. It made more sense a month ago.

Same reason many people are overvaluing him. Prospects are never sure things. Some give him a 25% or lower chance of making the cut at all, let alone as a top 6 player. Others act like he's a 100% lock as a top line player.
If you think Byron helps with a threepeat, and Montreal is willing to make that trade, you take it and run, imo.
