Hawks weren't even trying to win the trade, they just said f*ck off take him.
I'm convinced the Hawks are purposely trying to lose every single major trade they make.

(TBL/NSH) - McDonagh for Myers, Mismash
Hard to see McDonagh go, but it's the right time to free up cap space and not having to add something to take on his contract, that will likely look ugly very soon.

Ryan McDonagh has been excellent defensively for Tampa Bay, but at age 33 the remaining four years of his deal are looking incredibly dicey. The Lightning get out of this deal just in time. pic.twitter.com/hHftC66WvI
— dom (@domluszczyszyn) July 3, 2022

Obviously the problem for Tampa now is filling the blanks, and Sergy will need to step it up for the Dcore to be strong.
I'm not gonna lie, I like Myers potential. When he was in Philly he looked very promising but died out in Nashville. As JBB said he has the right toolbox, maybe a change of scenery is what he needs? We'll see.
But at this point, anybody doubting JBB moves hasn't been paying attention. He knows what he's doing.

Tampa's cap issues seem to be catching up to them. Now taking on a 2.5m ahl Dman they hope to rehab. Preds win this trade in a landslide.

Quoting: Brian2016

Tampa's D is looking a bit weak. Not sure they're still Cup contenders unless someone (Cal Foote) steps up next season.

Sergachev is more than capable of taking that Top 4 role. Losing Rutta is where it gets dicey for them. They have some RHD prospects who are intriguing though such as Thompson and Schmidt.

Quoting: MelonVK

They could also have gotten a solid D-man with those 5 million in cap space. This way they instead tie up a 33-y/o middle pair defenseman for almost 7 per year. He's not getting better, Nashville isn't competing now, and if they were - they'd do like Tampa and understand that 6.75 is an overpayment for McDonagh and move on.
This is exactly why teams like Tampa gets away with bending the cap to their will - other teams argue themselves into doing it for them.

Julien BriseBois said it was not a "pleasant" experience having to ask Ryan McDonagh to waive no-trade, called him one of best d-men in league. Brisebois saying this kinda has a point. McDonagh's performance at least right now is enough to warrant at least close to the amount he's earning now, but circumstance forced them to move on from McDonagh.
NSH saves themselves from offering such contract to a pylon like Chiarot and get themselves some actual quality with pretty much no cost. I can't see how this is a L for them either.
