Preds got a solid haul, but EDM got exactly what they needed. I think both could be called winners.

(CGY/MTL) - Monahan, conditional 2025 1st for future considerations

STAND ASIDE GUYS, IM A LAWYER! I WAS BORN FOR THIS!
If CGY 2024 1st is ranked 20+, MTL can claim it OR wait for 2025. Then:
--->If CGY also have FLO's top 10 proctected 1st:
A) IF CGY 2025 1st is not top 10 neither, MTL gets the higher one of the two. (MOST LIKELY)
-OR-
B) IF CGY 2025 1st is top 10, MTL gets FLO 1st
--->If FLO keep their 2025 1st because it is top 10:
A)MTL gets CGY 2025 1st outside of top 10
+
CGY 2025 4th if FLO 2025 1st is higher than CGY's
-OR-
B) MTL gets CGY top 10 2025 1st, except If it is 1st overall, then MTL gets CGY 2025 3rd and the highest of CGY or FLO 2026 1st. (JACKPOT)

As you see, the conditions are a beast, the draft board and picks on the Habs page I am still deciding upon how to display. It will be updated in due time.

Rest In Peace Ben Stetler
Absolutely tragic news today as Ben's Dad Mike announces that Ben has sadly passed away. I loved watching him joyously cheer on his favourite team and fight like an absolute warrior against such unfortunate circumstances. He was and is a true icon and a hero in the hockey world. Such an easy kid to cheer for and a staple of Oilers fandom. Rest easy Ben

Calgary Flames signed Jonathan Huberdeau (8 Years / $10,500,000 AAV)
Where are all the people who said that Calgary won the Tkachuk trade because they could flip Huberdeau for 1st round picks?!?!
Calgary lost an opportunity to rebuild and will be a fringe playoffs team for years to come.

Calgary Flames signed Matthew Tkachuk (8 Years / $9,500,000 AAV)

Quoting: ThirdPeriodCringe

How was he able to sign a 8 year contract? I thought the window to sign for max term was closed last week. Unless that window only applied to UFA status and not RFAs.

That’s exactly it. The window only applied to UFAs. Once a player becomes a UFA, he is no longer considered to have any connection with his team, and the team has no more rights to sign him than any other team in the league. With a RFA, the team still owns his signing rights and can still sign him for 8 years.
That being said, I read somewhere that the reason this is listed as a Calgary signing is that if they had traded his rights before he signed, Florida wouldn’t be able to sign him for 8 years. That doesn’t make sense to me. If Calgary trades his signing rights to Florida, wouldn’t that give Florida all the same rights that Calgary had, including the right to sign him for 8 years?

Post-Draft Prospect Rankings
I decided to build my own rankings for the Oilers' prospects as I'm finding that the uncertainty surrounding half of the league's cap situations makes publishing good AGMs difficult. My rankings are based off of NHLe, age (U24 for the most part, only Niemelainen breaks this rule due to lack of NHL games played), and a few makeshift corrections as defensive defencemen were rather punished by these rankings relying so heavily on scoring. I'll also follow the Steve Dangle pyramid format (S-, A-, B-, C-, D-, E-Rank) as a rough means of distinguishing who is/is not a specific caliber of player.
S-Rank
Nobody. Typically reserved for generational talents.
A-Rank
1. Philip Broberg
2. Dylan Holloway
3. Xavier Bourgault
B-Rank
4. Carter Savoie
5. Matvei Petrov
C-Rank
6. Stuart Skinner
7. Maksim Berezkin
8. Ty Tullio
9. Dmitri Samorukov
10. Reid Schaefer
D-Rank
11. Maximus Wanner
12. Jake Chiasson
13. Maxim Denezhkin
14. Nikita Yevseyev
15. Ryan Fanti
16. Markus Niemelainen
17. Filip Engaras
E-Rank
18. Luca Munzenberger
19. Michael Kesselring
20. Philip Kemp
21. James Hamblin
22. Raphael Lavoie
23. Noah Philp
Everyone Else
24. Olivier Rodrigue
25. Skyler Brind'Amour
26. Shane Lachance
27. Samuel Jonsson
28. Jeremias Lindewall
29. Tomas Mazura
30. Joel Maatta
I won't write a full blurb for any of the players lest this post end up a novel. I suspect that I'm a lot higher on names like Berezkin, Wanner, and Yevseyev than most. I'm super low on Maatta and really don't like that pick. I get that it's a late-round gamble, but gambling on a forward that cannot score seems short-sighted at best. Math is really high on Savoie, Petrov, and Tullio while the law of averages expects only one of those men to make the NHL full-time. I'm admittedly bearish on Niemelainen too: I don't think the puck skills are there to justify a full-time gig but his size and physicality will ensure him NHL employment for the next half-decade at least.
Let me know your thoughts and rankings down below!

Edmonton Oilers signed Jack Campbell (5 Years / $5,000,000 AAV)
Massive upgrade on Smith and Koskinen. Don't think he's a game changer, but it gives Edmonton stability for 5 years, something they finally needed.

Which goalie should the Oilers go after?
It's probably not the most popular idea but I'm big on Bobrovsky at 50% retention in exchange for Edmonton's two LTI contracts (Klefbom and Smith). The move saves Florida about $11M in cap space for this season.
I think Campbell and Kuemper only end up with the Oilers at or north of $6M annually, God forbid the term. Therein lies some partial upside to Bobrovsky: at max retention he's guaranteed to be cheaper while coming in with an almost guaranteed shorter term than the two big-fish UFAs.
Husso is too raw for me and I'd rather see some other franchise gamble on him. Georgiev and Gibson aren't good enough to warrant a tandem job with Skinner. Either Washington goalie would be fine by me so long as Edmonton invested heavily on defense this summer. I wouldn't hate Reimer as a one-year stopgap.
Hellebucyk probably costs far too much this summer to acquire him, but his name would be high on my list along with Jarry should Edmonton go with a short-term solution.
