You cant let him walk
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>evelutions2</b></div><div>His value has skyrocketed, but he very likely walks for a contender in the off-season. Right now, they are 2 points out of the second wild card with 3 games in hand on Dallas. They also have 6/7 games in hand on Vegas, Anaheim, and LA, so they could definitely be one of the top 3 in the Pacific. But if they don’t win those games in hand, they won’t make the playoffs. I would say if the Flames go on another cold streak before the deadline, sell JG, but if they are only a point or two out of a playoff spot, at the deadline, keep him. As it stands, unless they get a divisional seed, they should get ready to face Colorado in the first round. Calgary won’t have at chance at beating Colorado without JG, and JG most likely walking for a true contender in the off season, I would personally say sell.
This is a package I would propose for JG:
Carolina: JG (30% retained)
Calgary: 2023 first rounder, 2024 2nd rounder, Ryan Suzuki, Dominik Bokk
Calgary gets a first rounder in a deep draft, a 2nd rounder in another deep draft, and 2 former first round selections.
Would this package get JG?</div></div>
Not even close. We're talking about a top 10 scorer in the league in his prime...

The ask is four 1st round equivalents, and his health is in question. Buffalo only has 2 days before his NTC kicks in and they lose more leverage. Unless, the bidding war changes, I would say take one prospect off that list, and keep the two first round picks.</div></div>
His NTC kicks in next summer...

The window is open now man. Lindholm is on a 3 yr absolute steal, hanifin tanev and Anderson are all locked up for 3 yrs. Markstrom has 5 years left and probably only 3 really solid yrs of those 5. The time is now. But they need to adjust. Gaudreau isn't going to cut it as the leading point producer.
Honestly, I don't know in a flat cap, teams won't be throwing money around.. unless you're tampa

Getting Gaudreau Forsberg and
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AgentWebster</b></div><div>AND maybe....maybe you don't know the Bruins prospect. Senyshyn 23 years old who was a top 15 pick can be a difference maker in games on offence and is now wearing the A in Providence so leadership skills. He has 9 points in 11 games. Id like to see him work more on his D but he is turning into the player the Bruins drafted him at. You already know Studnicka who will play top 6. Kase also plays top 6 but has problems staying on the ice. Moore would play bottom 6 mins but no big value there. Boston has had a lot of luck drafting in the 2nd round so that is nothing to scuff at. The 3rd round the last 2011-16 years is always a player or two Trocheck, Vesey, Gostisbehere, Matt Murray, Grzelcyk, Parayko, Pesce, Guentzel, Point, Cirelli, Fox,</div></div>
A 23 year old leader in the minors... you're talking about a regular all-star player who is on the verge of a point per game for his entire career...and I cant even stand Gaudreau, but this is not even close to being close.

Tanev has been lights out. Mangiapane has played good. Dube, hanifin, backlund...JG is a stud on the pp. His hands are elite. But that's it....and either way, he's not going to resign in cgy. He has dreams of playing in philly and talks about it all the time. His best friend is already there in Hayes, and CGY is handcuffed if they don't trade him before his NTC. I get not trading him at the deadline but I would seriously consider it this summer.

You're right but if they sell Gaudreau which i think they should do before his NTC kicks in, you're most likely not getting the right shot top rw you're looking for from that deal. He'll go to a contender looking to upgrade scoring and i think for a high price at thw deadline.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>PhatRas</b></div><div>People keep trying to emphasize winning the west two years ago, something like 6 guys had career years and outscored their problems, that's the outlier, not the norm, don't latch onto that.
Coaching consistency and buying into that coach is what puts great teams over the top, look at the last 10 cup winners, Berube was even in St Louis for four years before he was a head coach. Mike Sullivan is the outlier.</div></div>
Great now they have addressed those "problems". They upgraded their goaltending and have hired a head coach with 3 cup appearances behind his name. I think its no secret this team hasn't played to their potential. There potential being 2 szns ago and competing for the top of the conference...i don't think that yr was a fluke and they are capable of repeating that type of performance... I don't get your point of why a good coach wouldn't want to be a part of the organization

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>PhatRas</b></div><div>No.. not at all really. Flames fan base has been increasingly whiney for the past couple years, north division is under a microscope this year and it creates a whole lot of stupid.
To speak to my earlier comment, the Flames group clearly pushes out any coach they want and the fan base is willing to turn on a coach in a second, why would an elite coach come to a team where none of the last 3 coaches have had more than a 2 year tenure?</div></div>
First of all you can't really put Peters into that conversation because he left due to his own actions prior to being with the flames. he would have been relieved of his duties no matter what team he was employed with when that news came out. It's clear that Ward isn't an NHL caliber head coach and imo shouldn't have ever been promoted. Guly was an experiment and it didn't work out. That happens from time to time. I think this team has potential to be a contending team and thats why an elite coach could be intrigued to come here. Everyone forgets this team is 2 years removed from winning the west. Put a proper experienced NHL coach behind the bench a few more small pieces and this team is a continuous contender yr after yr. Sutter can def be that guy. 2 Stanley cup championships. 1 cup loss. 1 Western final loss. He almost won 3 cups back to back to back. CGY has good pieces, why wouldn't an elite coach want to try and turn the corner? because the fans are passionate and want better?
