<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>hockeynutter</b></div><div>As for the Ottawa trade, considering what Ottawa gave up for Chychrun that would be a coup. That's essentially looking like 2 first and 2 seconds for Chychrun where Ottawa gave up only a 1st and 2 seconds if I remember correctly. Treliving will hard pass wanting to remove Minten or no deal.
On Ottawa's end , that is the deal you would want at a minimum for Chychrun considering asset management. You would want more that what you gave up.
Hard to see a trade between these two team unless it involves Chabot, and now Toronto is getting another injury prone player at a higher cap hit that seems to have hit his ceiling. Is it worth it. Chabot is good, very good, but not sure much he helps the Leafs when hey have Rielly.</div></div>
Sure but that was for 3 years of Chychrun, not 1. If they move him (which there is no guarantee they will) even they know they won't get back what they gave up.

Even after the year he has had, $11MM is high. Like he hasn't been as good as Pastrnak over his career. Not even as good as Marner. He's going to get $1.75MM more than Matt Tkachuk?? That's wild.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Rage44</b></div><div>The talent pool for top prospects isn't super deep. I don't think you can keep hanging on to guys for 2 years after drafting and trading at mid value.
I don't think there's a major need with this F group. They are 12-15 deep with a top end top 6, and the bottom 6 is figuring it out IMO.
I don't mind Larsson, especially 2 years for $2mil. I'm just not sure I love the trade value for another 31yr old.</div></div>
Minten doesn't have star potential. He probably tops out as a middle six guy and that won't be for a few years. I think he is more valuable to another team than he is to the leafs.

No way. Ppl have definitely forgotten their kid before. It was a logical series of events that lead them to forget him and once they were on the plane, they were stuck.

It's two expiring guys. This would be only done if they looked at their standing at the deadline and decided they were sellers. Canes could go re-sign both in the off-season of they wanted to. And they'll have collected picks and prospects for renting them out for two months

At some point, Ottawa is gonna start asking him if he intends to extend with them and if the answer is no, they'll get way more for him now then if they wait.

I think you've got the right of it tbh. Leafs aren't giving up Knies because he's already contributing at the NHL level. Could the flames get Cowen instead of Minten or Abruzzese if they are retaining? Possibly. I only said Abruzzese because a couple flames reporters have floated that Calgary is interested in him. The first is tablestakes. After that, we're just quibbling on the quality of prospect and even within that structure, Leafs don't have an A+ guy to offer. Cowen probably considered A-/B+, Minten B, Abruzzese C+.
