where i think tree is going read desc
Explain to me how we are trading Nylander and only getting back essentially a soon to be 30 year old UFA in Pesce with his best years behind him and a couple 30 year old 3rd liners who are also going to be UFAs next year. oh and we just toss in Liljegren as he enters his prime. Holy **** is this a dog**** trade.

Is this realistic
No. Las Vegas has even more serious cap concerns than Toronto. They won't be taking on additional cap to exchange fourth-liners, especially since Kolesar has a higher upside ahead of him.

you seem to overrate Liljegren a tad.

Its the Finale
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MacanBayangan</b></div><div>Actually, I've proposed this type of trade a few times and oilers fans have been quite receptive. Granted it's usually with Holl/Engvall added on. Anyway, the point is get rid of him for a pick, maybe a 3rd but more likely a 4th/5th and to whoever wants him. Use Dell as the back-up to save money.
As for the 21 man roster, this is perfectly feasible for the myriad of reasons numerous people have outlined on other threads (call-ups, covid, travel squads etc.)</div></div>
Well, I know the folks like 21 man rosters but that. doesn't make them practical. Short term illnesses or injuries are not LTIR eligible, so now you're talking about teams having just 18 or 19 eligible players to pay
If the Oiler had wanted a third goalie....and you think he is as good as Campbell, wouldn't the Oilers been much better off signing Dell, for much less than Campbell and then they could have kept their pick. So I don't find this so called cap saving trade for the Leafs practical at all for the Oilers.

Torontos Time To Win
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>stevod_97</b></div><div>First of all, love your username. Secondly, if they can save cap space without trading Kerfoot, then I'd be happy, much like the rest of Leafs nation. My theory when it comes to Toronto is that Dermott plays the season while scratched for most of the games, so he at least gets the league minimum. Once the following season happens, Bogosian will probably leave Toronto and it will leave Liljegren, Sandin and Dermott battling for the final defensive spot on the Leafs, and I'm pretty sure Toronto doesn't want to lose Dermott, let alone Liljegren and Sandin. Mikheyev might get a cheaper deal in arbitration, but I see it where he gets $2.5 million as he did well before being injured. If can stay healthy, I can see it but I don't know what Toronto wants to give Mikheyev</div></div>
Dermott's qualifying offer is almost $900k, so he won't be signing for less than that. IMO unless another move is made on the backend, Dermott claims a top 4 spot this season. None of Sandin, Lehtonen or Bogosian played 17 min/night last year in the NHL, so all of them are below him on the depth chart. Dubas is a straight shooter, he said Dermott should get a shot at RD this season, so it's him vs Holl for top 4 minutes, and Dermott has a way higher ceiling, so he could/should pass him this season.
Players with 39 games of experience under their belt have very little to stand on arbitration. The hearing is next week, and I'm pretty sure Leafs have no problem going that route. He'll be lucky top $1.25m per.
I also doubt Kerfoot is moved unless someone a like Haula is signed.
