I mean they could retain, but does that go from a fourth to a third? Maybe in this years deep draft it would be. Hated him in Philly, love em here, wouldn't mind seeing him go to a contender</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>pharrow</b></div><div>yeah I mean from my perspective. NJ would seem to want some kind of future asset if they made this deal.
How much, I don't know that. Part of it is what else is out there and how he has actually played this year which just gauging from the stats and the few games I have seen him play isn't all to well, much like Chucky.
I would say yeah, a 4th is probably right. But who knows.</div></div>
The reasoning behind this trade is that NJ knows what Simmonds brings but given Gals struggles, a change of scenery could greatly benefit him. Especially in NJ where there will be little to no pressure. Both are expiring but Pitt could see Simmonds leadership and tenacity as a plus for a deep playoff run. Nj could then use the small sample size which is the rest of the 2019-2020 season after the TDL to see how Gal fits into the lineup and how he performs. If he turns things around, plays well with the young guys NJ has, then NJ could feel more comfortable throwing him an offer in FA having somewhat of an idea how Gal slots in, rather than hoping for the best how this last FA went.
