Shake up the team
Among other issues, Mark Stone signs for more than that.
I don't think Sobotka's contract is a net positive, or that you will be able to move him without retaining salary or taking back salary.
Carolina trade seems to make sense to me.
And while Bogo>Zaitsev and Toronto is saving $2 mil there as well, I'm not sure if/don't think they'd be willing to part with Kadri to make that happen.

Rebuild with help from the Canada
I couldn't get past past the first trade. McQuad is nothing. No way that the Canadians trade two blue-chip prospects who are already productive NHL'ers, a solid young depth piece, and a pick upgrade to a first for him.
Zibanejad is great. But you are asking way to many futures from a team that is also rebuilding.

More depth
Vancouver wouldn't have any interest in trading Hutton at the moment. While Edler has been hurt he has been playing 25-30 minutes a game and not looking out of place. And even when Edler is back their D-depth on the left side looks questionable. Trading him would leave them with 1 NHL caliber LHD, who is currently on IR.
Even if he has alternated good and bad years so far, Vancouver can't replace him. So that trade structure makes no sense for them.

Haha. A delusional Leafs fan at that. Marleau is not waiving his NMC to come to Carolina, nor would Carolina want him.
The trade is already unbalanced, better give the Leafs an extra pick as well.

Anyone who expects 2 firsts, a blue chip prospect, and multiple other significant pieces for a rental is delusional.

2 season rebuild
Buying at the deadline to make a playoff push does not mean trading away your starting goalie. If you want Lehner you can try to buy him away in free agency (he's on a one year "prove it" deal). It makes no sense for the Islanders to trade him.

A trade Ive never thought of before Sabres
While a third solid RHD would definitely help the Sabres, we don't have the depth at wing to absorb losing Reinhart. The Sabres biggest problem this year is that they have been a one line team.
Point production offense only (G/A/Pts):
Eichel - 18/41/59 in 52 gp
Skinner - 33/17/50 in 55 gp
Reinhardt - 13/36/49 in 55 gp
Sheary - 9/15/24 in 52 gp
Pominville - 12/10/22 in 49 gp
Evan Rodrigues - 8/13/21 in 49 gp
Etc.
It isn't happening. And it doesn't really make sense timeline-wise for the Sabres anyway.

Just give Pommer a cup please
While I really don't understand it, Tampa traded assets for Rutta in order to have an extra injury call up in place in Syracuse (it makes doubly less sense because Cal Foote is better than Rutta anyway).
While it helps them to shed shed Rutta's salary (not that they keep it with Pommers' deal), I'd throw Tennyson in to even up the body count so they keep the extra depth they wanted.
Otherwise seems reasonable. Sucks to lose Guhle in this (I've always been optimistic about him) but our left side is becoming a bit crowded. Not certain if Dallas bites on that either though.

This trade is basically Alex Nylander for Vesey. Wilson and Moulson don't matter beyond which owner pays the bill.
Nylander is a divisive prospect among Sabres fans. You'll never get a consistent value on him. Some would say the deal is fine as is, some would have no interest in it whatsoever. But only Vesey and Nylander are relevant.

Mock trades
You are expecting too much for rentals. The market is not that strong.
For example, for Evander Kane Buffalo got a conditional 1st/2nd (if he re-signed), a conditional 3rd/4th (if they went deep into playoffs), and a fringe prospect (Danny O'Reagan.
No way Dzingel gets Donato + a 1st/2nd conditional. If you are looking at Donato then he is the main return, and the pick is lower. If you are hoping for a 1st/2nd conditional then the prospect needs to be a B prospect. Dzingel is NOT worth a first and an A-prospect. I'm not entirely sold he gets either to be honest.
Dallas is not giving up Heiskanen. Certainly not for a rental. That's a hang up and block the number type of offer.
Ceci isn't worth a first.
The Toronto trade doesn't suit Toronto's needs. Their goal would be to shed salary and and make the supporting cast more cap efficient. Adding Pageau does neither.
I might have the least complaints about the Zach Smith trade, and that is expecting stuff for someone nobdy wanted on waivers earlier this year.
Duchene trade is reasonable. Not sure they bite, but it's reasonable.
I don't think New Jersey, another budget team, is going to be the team to take your salary dump in Condon. Nor do I think Jaros is enough to make then pay for the privilege of doing so.

You can dicker about the price, but this is a trade structure that makes sense for both teams. Jets clear some needed cap on a bad contract, the Canucks get some futures and a stopgap for while Edler is hurt.

Ideal Canucks Deadline
Chatfield has been hurt for much of the year. He came back earlier this month, though I haven't watched many games in which he's been back (out of area). He's not a point scorer, but he's good in his own end, skates well, is good at getting the puck out of his end, and doesn't panic under pressure (and in the NHL people get on you and pressure you quicker, that can be a major breaking point which I think he'd pass). He won't be flashy, but I'd say he's the most NHL-ready of our D men at the moment.
I noticed his +/- earlier (while he was hurt), and it doesn't match with my perceptions from casually watching the team. The team was more of a tire fire at the start of the year (most of his games) compared to now, so that may have contributed. But it's probably warranted to keep an on him to see what is causing that. Until then, that's my opinion on his play.
McEneny doesn't skate well enough for the NHL. I don't remembering if it's always been this bad, so it could be something nagging him. Either way, it's prevents him from being a NHL option in my opinion.

Hypothetically, what would be your plan for Burakovsky's contract next year? A QO is $3.25 mil for him (prior year's base salary). If he is signed for one year he will be an RFA, two and he becomes a UFA. I am assuming you would be willing to sign him to that QO (1 year x $3.25 mil), and make a catch or release decision the following year?
Also, McEneny is not an NHL defensemen. I'd suggest Chatfield, even though that makes 5 RD's. Sautner would likely be preferred if he was healthy, but no dice. You might want to get a warm body on defense from somewhere, if you aren't comfortable with putting Stanley there.

Edmonton has cap problems, and would not be able to make that trade (it would put them over the cap). Nor (even if you took some 1 year cap dump back) would they be able to re-sign either of them. It makes no sense for a non-playoff team to pay that many futures for rentals.
I don't think there's any reason for Duchene to want to sign-and-trade to Carolina. So that deal is also broke.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>moli92</b></div><div>Obviously the team is better with ROR (on paper), but the point of the trade was for BUF to improve long term while STL improved now (Although this season has been kinda backwards since BUF has been better than everyone expected and STL has been worse than everyone expected). You cant say the trade was bad after half of a season when the trade includes young players and picks... Wait for Thompson to pan out and see who you get with the picks before saying the trade was bad.</div></div>
I'm not sold on Thompson, which colors my opinion of the trade. And Berglund and Sobotka are not net gains at their cap hit. If we wanted some of those players we could have been the one to sign a Patrick Maroon, Alex Beagle, or Alex Chiasson type player over the offseason.
The trade might end up working out better in the end, but that would mostly be if St. Louis gives a far better than expected 1st round pick pick, and that pick pans out. I would not have traded ROR for an expected late first, 3rd, and Thompson.

WSH, FLA, CAR Trade.
Hanifin is not noted for being a strong defender as is. Playing him on his offhand seems... unwise.
Netting Grubauer, Burakovsky, and Hanifin seems questionable value wise for O'Reilly and Risto, but the killer is that it makes our positional needs even worse on the back end (there's a reason Risto has been playing 26+ minutes for the past three years). Dahlin has played both sides in the SHL (I can't claim to know which he played best on), but the only actual RHD on that roster is Casey Nelson. That's disturbing.

Also this is a player who admitted to having a lack of confidence. I don’t know about you but to me that screams of a player not meeting expectations...</div></div>
Burakovsky definitely had an off year. A 36 point pace is definitely a let-down year for him. I am not disagreeing about that - he's said as much himself if I'm remembering right.
That same let-down year would be a big step forward for Bennett.
As an outside party (Sabres fan) I would be willing to give up significantly more for Burakovsky than Bennett (who's a reclamation project at this point). If Washington wants/needs to trade him then they can do better than Bennett.
