SMITH-BELLY COME BACK
Great signing. If I could make one suggestion, once you've signed a terrific clutch playoff goal scorer who plays okay at each special team, are you sure you have a roster spot for Jeff Carter? I was going to question the Van trade, too, until I processed the picks and retention, at which point, go for it, if they don't need him.

HABS FIRESALE to the FUTURE
Lindholm is so much better than Petry lol, no way the ducks add to that, and the fact that lindholm is much younger and on a very team friendly deal.... No

ANA isnt looking to get older
thats what this trade does for them
while taking away their 1st so they couldnt re-stock their depth right away
a deal that would make sense for them is MTL paying for Getzlaf
give up the younger Tatar , 1st , Teasdale and Fleury
Fleury and Muhara's chemistry together from days as one of the WHL's top Defensive Pairings and consistent PP threat
Teasdale comes off a Memorial Cup Championship run in which he was the Catalyst and 2nd in CHL Post Season scoring .
MTL benefits by having a true #1 center short term to help Danault , Poehling and Kotkanemi hit the next levels in the faceoff circle .
it gives us a big Forward to play between Domi-Gallagher giving us a real chance at a playoff run short term without sacrificing the youth long term to do it .
by the time Getzlaf's done Caufield , Ylonen and Ikonen will be kicking down the door to join the team and Danault , Poehling and Kotkanemi will be ready to handle Center's 5000 faceoffs we average a year .

I spoke with a source close to the team and toronto wants Tavares on the 3rd line to have a more "competitive" bottom six. E3 More to come...

There is no reason for Toronto to get danault if there just going to play him on the 3rd line.

If Weber goes down we have no one on the right side. Danault is too young and good to let go.

This is bad for the Leafs based on the fact that the Habs get Nylander for 5, and Dermott for 5 at the least. Meanwhile the Leafs get two players with 2 years left and a B prospect.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>cmcnamed</b></div><div>Petry plays #3 RD with Weber back.</div></div>
Not at all how it's going to be working with MTL at RD this upcoming season or even the following season. Although Weber is still a powerhouse defensively, same for his shot on offense, his minutes will need to go down. Playing him over 25minutes a game all year is just a recipe for him to get hurt or be completely drained come playoff time. He's turning 34 in a few days. Habs are in a perfect position to roll with Weber as a #1a with Petry as a #1b. No chance someone like Brook, Fleury, or Juulsen come training camp take Petry's spot just like that. Only one close right now is Juulsen (because he already did it for like 15 games, but that's still too small a sample size)

Brook takes Petry's spot.
Poehling takes Danaults spot.
Nylander takes the vacant Top-6 scoring slot.</div></div>
So the idea is that MTL loses the trade to fill a need that could be filled internally as soon as training camp? And not even the biggest need the team has. As for Nylander filling a top-6 scoring role, he is a 20 goal guy, Tatar, Domi, Gallagher, Drouin, and Byron are already that with KK, Suzuki and Poehling potentially doing that this season.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>cmcnamed</b></div><div>He still put up more points than Domi did last year. Montreal upgrades in the first year.</div></div>
Same about of points but Malkin played less games. It all depends on where Montreal is at in terms of being a contender. If Montreal can win a cup in the next 3 years then maybe the trade happens. If Montreal thinks it is going to be longer I think they pass and it doesn't matter if Malkin stays in the NHL or goes to the KHL at the end of his contract because 36 is about the age where even superstars start to show their age. Now thats how I look at it.

Look at the 2 main players in this proposal. Domi is 24 years old and Malkin is 33 years old, that's almost a decade of difference. Plus when his contract is up he will probably go to the KHL and play his last couple of seasons at home like a lot of Russians do.

Has to be without retention. I'd add a B-prospect or mid-round pick to make that happen, but no retention on Ladd.
