Use the Cap Space
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Tintin</b></div><div>I like this team, should do some serious damage if this is how they lined up in October.
Just a thought tho, why not just trade for Lehner (and Hague) instead of Brossoit if you're not gonna end up using him?</div></div>
I did it to reduce the acquisition cost of Hague, who has a huge upside, by taking on a contract that Vegas really wants to get rid of. The alternative is to wait until 1st day of UFA (offer sheet availability) and offer sheet him at a 2nd round price. I think Johnsson at 50%, and clearing Brossoit's cap (he's not an actual goaltending solution for us), as well as a token 3rd, would be worth a lot more to Vegas than a 2023 2nd round pick.
As for Lehner. He will be coming off of a down year and a major offseason surgery. While I like him, it seems like more of a risk, and I don't want to risk paying a lot for a goalie with a recent injury history

Keep The Pick
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>The_Rocket</b></div><div>Vancouver isn’t cap strapped and if they were trading a team friendly deal for a collection of less valuable parts doesn’t solve anything</div></div>
Considering Vancouver isn't competing for a Cup next year, their prospect pool is among the worst in the league, and their best RHD prospect is Jett Woo, I would say Walsh addresses an issue. Zacha is a suitable middle 6 winger who will cost a lot less than Garland on his contract. Lastly, the #37 overall pick could help bolster their prospects, which as said before, is rated quite low.

A top 40 pick, Zacha, and a B+ RHD prospect aren't enough for Garland when Vancouver is cap-strapped?

I'm aware that the Bruins biggest need is at Center, but secondary scoring is an issue for Boston. The bottom 6 has only 2 wingers with 15+ points right now, and one of them requested a trade. You won't make it far with a bottom 6 producing like that.

When Eichel and Martinez return, VGK needs to clear at least 8m in cap. This provides VGK with an opportunity to clear 8m in cap without moving a top 6 forward or a starting Dman. That is going to cost something, but is worth it for a win-now team

He hasn't been good since the start of last season, and needs a change of scenery. Personally, I am done waiting for him to be the goalie we hoped he would be, and a change in net is needed.

The Devils have no interest in De Haan. He can't stay healthy and has been replacement level the last 2 seasons. What do you see as Maatta's value? I've been seeing it as a 3rd round pick in a lot of CHI AGMs

The Steen trade is modeled off of Marleau. If the Blues are willing to lose Pietrangelo to UFA, then this trade doesn't happen. Steen absolutely would waive his NTC because the terms of the trade guarantee a buyout, which would allow him to sign wherever he wants

Their model underestimated Brodin's extension AAV by 1.5m. Their model tends to overestimate offensive defensemen and underestimate stay-at-home defensemen

Tampa doesn't have the 2.5m AAV to give him. Sergachev and Cirelli will combine for ~10m and there is only ~5m in cap space. They would need to trade 2 core players in order to get everyone under the cap

Hard pass from the Devils. If you want someone to take on 3 years of the worst Dman in the NHL, it needs to be a 1st (or a 2nd and your top prospect)

Money is not the issue for NJD. Their owners just put in a huge bid to buy the NY Mets and just bought a minor stake in the Pittsburgh Steelers. For the Devils, they are not going to spend a 1st round pick on a 28 year old w/ only 1 yr remaining on the contract. If a rebuilding team trades away a first round pick, it is for someone younger w/ more years under team control (IE: Vince Dunn, Erik Cernak, Willie Nylander, Kevin Labanc, etc.)

The Sharks need to score on this pick. If someone high on their list is still available at 20, they will definitely pay to move up. Maybe the 3rd round pick is pushing it, but the 2nd round pick would definitely be part of it

I think Saad can pull in a mid-late first rounder and possibly a prospect at the TDL. The Blackhawks would need to retain 50%, and the trade would need to be w/ a contender. If the Devils give up one of their 3 picks in the 2020 1st Round, it will be for someone younger, and with more years under team control.

The Hall trade seems to be kind of in line w/ what I am seeing. Maybe the 2021 1st can be an all-or-nothing based on Colorado winning the Cup or Hall re-signing, rather than giving up a 2nd if neither of those happen. If Hall ended up signing an 8-year extension w/ Colorado, NJ would be getting robbed if they didn't get a 1st round pick out of it.
The St. Louis trade can be done in the offseason, I see NJ as a good place for Jake Allen to prove himself, especially since they will have the cap space to take on that contract.

I can see the Devils holding off until the summer and paying a little more (3rd and a mid to low level prospect) for Allen. I think NJ is a good place for him to prove himself, especially since Blackwood is still too young for a big workload.
