And that is a very fair point. Killorn has negotiated that right. What would say to Killorn waiving to go to his home town Montreal? I would imagine he would get top 6 roll and power play time as well.

Interesting on Killorn. Great feedback :) On EK, I agree with his injuries. At the money we are talking here, it is too much of a risk for Tampa. Maybe not for another team in a different situation than us.

My question is. Is this an underpay from Toronto? Killorn is hardly a capdump, just doesnt sit high on Tampa's pecking order.</div></div>
Great thoughts. Yeah, I don't know if it moves the needle for TOR enough however a lot of the teams made by there fans involve Marleau so I figured I'd ask the question. Yeah, I agree on underpayments for the Karlsson + Point teams. Here are my thoughts, I actually don't like the idea of Karlsson in Tampa but if a guy that talented really wants to be here for a rumored large discount. You have to at least test the waters, right? It would have to be a heavy discount to work for Tampa. Like max 8 million per yr kind of discount. I know that is crazy talk and Karlsson is worth way more but if he really wants to be here than its gonna have to work for Tampa.

Yzerman went after Karlsson (and Tavares) knowing Point resigning is a top priority. JBB managed the Cap for Yzerman. Meaning JBB believes we can manage the Point resigning and Karlsson resigning. If we can do that, then we can afford this. However, I love your feedback that you believe the Bolts won't take on the cap if it comes off the books soon. I try to think of creative ideas and love hearing hockey fans thoughts. Thank you :)

Tampa trades for Rakell NJD BUF NYR
<a href="/users/Zwui21" target="_blank">@Zwui21</a> you asked for thoughts. I agree with you on Stamkos. He is an amazing player when used correctly and has the right wingers around him. Let me give you another option instead of trading for it. Last year Syracuse Crunch's top 2 lines ran in the playoffs. Line 1: Carter Verhaeghe - Gabriel Dumont - Alex Barre-Boulet (ABB) / Line 2: Alex Volkov - Mitchell Stephens - Cory Conacher. Contractually (unless traded) Conacher has a one way deal next yr and will be with the Bolts. Verhaeghe if resigned will have to be with the Bolts too. I also think ABB will make this team. Verhaeghe & ABB will be high powered and fast but will need a vet to anchor that line. Imagine a Verhaeghe - Stammer - ABB line. wow wow wow. And of course, our other top line is Johnson - Point - Kucherov. I could see a friendly competition between these 2 lines to see who puts up the most points (not including PP time.) Thoughts?

Question for TB Fans
So you're kinda asking a multi-level question. So what will we do about Cally & Cap? What tradeable assets do we have? Our RHD options?
First is what our GM JBB said (I'm paraphrasing this quote) "Our priority is signing Point and we know we will have to shed 2 mid-level cap hits to do so." So think every forward in $4-$6M range. Next, look at who has NTC, modified NTC, and who doesn't have any (yet - July 1st) and that tells us who JBB is referring to.
Miller (has a lot of value, signed long term, great price, top 6 guy, power play guy, and a center)
Gourde (I don't see them moving Gourde cause they just signed him. JBB has said his style of play if how he is gonna build our team.)
Callahan (becomes an assistant coach, what? ... keep reading)
Now we could still try to move a NTC. Ask the player to waive it. Especially if we win the cup this yr. Think maybe an Alex Killorn. He has a NTC but holds a lot of value still. He is one of the reasons we have the number 1 PK in the league. Really clutch goal scorer in the playoffs. He gets 3rd line minutes here. Say we offer him a trade to his home town with the Habs. He would get PP time, top 2 line minutes, etc. His name (hopefully) is already on the cup. If he refused, we could buy him out as well as an option. Habs would jump at this b/c the ask would be very low. Why wouldn't you want him for next to nothing in return?
Callahan - I don't see them trading him with salary retained because we would likely loss assets in the deal. We can just buy him out instead of trading assets in that case. I can't see us keeping Cally, as must as he is loved and a leader, you can't pay a healthy scratch (or 4th line guy on this team) almost $6M. Faced with a buyout or trade to a non-playoff, rebuilding team willing to take on a contract for assets, (again hopefully his name is on the cup at this point,) I believe (just my guess) the Lightning offer him a coaching or front office job to retire early. This clears his cap but he still gets paid as a LTIR. He is a great leader in that room and would be a great assistant coach. Another option is offering another team assets to take Cally for the purpose of buying him out and then Tampa resigns him cheaper on a veteran deal. Of course, we could just straight up trade his whole contract and give up assets to do so for nothing in return but the cap relief. (Not a great option.)
Other roster assets, RFA rights to:
Erne
Paquette
Martel
I believe Paquette gets moved. We shouldn't resign them all with how much depth we have in Syracuse. He is a Center, he is having a career yr so he is now in his prime, and we have plenty of talent to replace him.
Other forward assets/ Syracuse:
ABB - Having a monster rookie yr and is too good to let go. He is probably off the board as a trade asset.
Verhaeghe & Stephens are 2 centers that could replace Paquette next yr. So they are NHL ready and one might be traded.
Biggest trade piece is Volkov. Scouted as the next Kucherov so why trade him? His is top 6 talent and there is no room in our top 6 in Tampa. He doesn't play that bottom 6 grit style, he is a pure goal scorer so we either waste his amazing talent in the AHL or trade him. He is very valuable as a trade piece, will immediately improve a team in scoring.
More names to watch. Katchouk, Conacher, & our goalie Ingram. Yep, I said it, Ingram might get traded. He is really good, AHL all-star, etc but he has no room in Tampa behind Vasy. Don't wanna sit a young talent as a number 2. Goalies need game time. Domingue is the perfect #2 so they may trade Ingram as an asset.
RHD -
In our system, we have Foote which has started to pick it up in Syracuse but scouts and people like Bolt Prospects on twitter (which is a great follow) says he is still at least 1/2 a yr away. So maybe a call-up Dec, Jan time next yr if he is proving to deserve it.
Also, Masin is in our system for the left side. Was one of the last cuts during training camp. He really impressed the coaching staff. Could cover LHD while Serg is on the right side. Masin is 23 years old and needs to take that next step and break into the league soon.
Rutta can be a cheap option for RHD.
The 3 UFAs Strals, Coburn, & Girardi. All are declining and would sign a "veteran" type low deal I believe. However, does Tampa want that with the league getting faster? I could see Tampa signing one of them, either Coburn or Strals if the deal is right and short term. I think Girardi retires.
Serg I think works all offseason to become better at the right side. He should be a top 4 D guy but can't be one on the left side behind Heddy and MacD.
Based on this without a trade or UFA not in our current system, next yr could be like this:
Heddy - Serg
MacD - Cernak
Coburn/Masin - Rutta (with Foote called up mid yr)
But I could see Tampa trading for an RHD at the draft. Remember some NTC kick in on July 1st. I could see a move like J.Faulk (Carolina) for JT Miller for example. Then our team is drastically better:
Heddy - Serg
MacD - Cernak
Coburn/Masin - Faulk
[Foote - 1 more full yr in AHL]
The crazy wild card for RHD still out there. Eric Karlsson. haha I know I know crazy. Tampa could move things around to fit him in (yes even with signing Point) but is it worth it? I don't know. Heard (even recently) podcasts/ lightning power play (a TBL radio station on iHeart) that they still believe Karlsson wants to come to Tampa. Even if he takes a huge discount/ short deal to go for the cup, I can't see him making less than Heddy on the discount. So again I don't know if it's worth it cause it really puts us in a bind the following yr for Vasy, Cernak, Cirelli, Joseph, and Serg. To me, Karlsson isn't worth the cap trouble.
So my guess is we do bring in one RHD this offseason like a Faulk, Tanev, Trouba (might be still too much $), Gudas, etc.
Thanks for reading this far. You asked a great question which has lots of layers so I wanted to give ya my guesses as a Tampa resident.

Just imagine this line: Panarin - Point - Kucherov, wow wow wow. Also, Panarin plays in Stammer's office on the power play so we would be so deep that Panarin might have to play our 2nd power play unit. It would just be insanely deep in talent.

We would be trading away assets away just to downgrade. So the article talks about how we should either do nothing or go really big. It's a good read.

Out just a few minutes ago, Joe Smith of the Athletic reporting Callahan has been told he is now the 13th forward so unless someone gets injured, Cally will be a healthy scratch moving forward. Of course everyone loves Cally. He gives you 200% on every shift. He is a class act off the ice. A leader in the room but he is our weakest forward on a very deep team. Will be interesting what Tampa does with his contract.

Nah, we can rock a 20 player roster if we want to. Here's the rule from the NHL website: 23-man Roster
There may be a maximum of 23 players on each Club's playing roster at any one time from the commencement of the NHL regular season through the trade deadline. Prior to the start of the season, each Club must submit to the NHL its "Opening Day Playing Roster" which shall be comprised of not more than 23 players. Each Club must have a roster of at least 20 players, composed of 18 skaters and two goaltenders. Players on Injured Reserve do not count in the 23-man limit.

Here ya go my dude, copy/pasted from the NHL Hockey Operations Guidelines:
23-man Roster
There may be a maximum of 23 players on each Club's playing roster at any one time from the commencement of the NHL regular season through the trade deadline. Prior to the start of the season, each Club must submit to the NHL its "Opening Day Playing Roster" which shall be comprised of not more than 23 players. So basically you have to have at least 20 and not more than 23.

Yes with a few tweaks, we can afford it all haha. I agree with you that Callahan's contract will get moved but I think we will have to ship out 1 more $5M+ guys and the only one without a full NTC is Miller so my guess is he will be traded. That 2019-20 defense is too weak. Foote is not ready yet. @BoltPropects & Erik Erlensson of the Lightning Insider both have him projected at the earliest, 2020-21 to reach the NHL. I doubt Girardi returns. He is probably going to be a healthy scratch come playoff time. We will probably resign Straws. My guess is $3M range. My last guess is that we use the Miller trade to bring in a Dman like a Justin Fault (with salary retained) for example.

Actually the in 20-21 Killorn's contract becomes a modified NTC so he has to give us a list of teams he can be traded to. I don't know how many teams that is according to his contract but I do see him getting moved that year. I agree that Miller is a good candidate to be traded too! Go Bolts

Point discount for Stralman
I'm thinking the same way you are. I think your offer Point is in the right ballpark of what will happen. Maybe more, maybe less, we don't know but I think its a great guess. Also agree on Callahan. I would kill 2 birds with one stone. I would trade one of my top 6 forwards that make $4-6M per yr and possible throw in a RFA rights to Erne OR Paquette (not both) to sweeten the deal to Take on Callahan's contract. I don't think we can resign both RFA's so that is why I would throw one in. (I made a previous team/post about a callahan trade/buyout/resign him cheaper options too.) With Johnson, Palat, Killorn, & Gourde all having NTC... Miller is the odd man out with a modified NTC so he goes to trade Cally is my guess. That frees up over $10M. On straws, I agree we should resign him but I don't we can that cheap. He's 32, I don't like the idea of having over 35 yrs old dman but I think offering him a 3-4 yr deal gets it done for him. Example a $3M x 3yrs gives Strals $9m to stay on a great team he likes and I think he would sign that. Cernak covers the lose of Girardi. Foote might be ready for the NHL next yr too. He is tearing it up lately (3 goals in 2 games.) If Foote isn't ready, than Serg can cover the right sode again and Koekkoek covers the lose of Coburn. Anyways... great post. I am right with your thinking, we will see what JBB does :)

Salary Cap Bolts get creative Next Yrs Team
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ExpiredmilkYT</b></div><div>Also, Philly would gladly take that offer of yours. Can Miller play RW?</div></div>
Yeah I had Philly as one of the teams I would contact with this if I was the GM. Yes Miller is a Center but we are so deep at Center both Miller and Johnson have played both the LW and RW for us. Miller does it very well too. When he goes into the boards to retrieve dump ins, he seems to always win the puck battles and come out with the puck. He's tough, can grid on the 4th line and has the skills/hands to hang with high end talent like Stammer & Kuch on the top lines. He did that a lot last yr when we acquired him and he put up a lot of goals quickly. He plays power play minutes. He knows where to be on the ice. If you can find his last goal on our last game before the christmas break. He went to paint, moved the Dman out of his way with his body and put his stick on the open backside of the goalie, Our D, Cernak came in hot and shot/pass the puck by the goalie, right to Miller's stick, doom open net goal. Perfect positioning. He's good but as I said, 2 of our $5-6M range have got to go to afford Point and Miller has a modified NTC so he has to give us a list of teams he would go to.
