Realistic
I think you need to have at least one extra skater (always better for a 13th forward AND a 7th dman), but I'll start with this:
Even in the above, you're short by a million in cap space (for a less than 1mil 19th skater)
Then Stamkos is probably 5.5, but even 6.5mil is extremely reasonable and an underpayment
So ultimately you're short about 2mil, so someone making 3mil probably needs to go (Jeannot for example makes 2.665mil, so even a replacement for him probably puts you over the cap).
Add in the disappointing finish the last 2 yrs, so wheres the improvement?
And Add that the team is getting paper thin, I'm not sold on the quality of Perbix, Raddysh, Chaffee, Glendening, Eyssimont, Duhaime: IMO theyre roster filler, 12th-14th forwards, 6th-7th dmen
Eight guys making 6mil or more works for a contender if you have a lot of ELC or cheap youngsters , TB doesn;t. I think one of the guys making 6mil or more has to go.

Don’t think Necas gets 10 OA
Why are we retaining on Kuzy for a 6th? Just keep him
Skjei gets more money
Martin isn’t an nhl caliber goaltender

Henrique, Desh and Chatfields contracts are all much too high.
With Desh recent playoff play I'd expect he's closer to a 1.5M x 2y deal at this point (if that), would almost rather just keep Kulak who's pretty clearly proving he's a good right D option.
You can use the savings there (paired with moving Campbell) to get a better #2 RHD IMO.

Broberg has been ready for a while now, but Bourgault isn't ready. Maybe he'll surprise in training camp, but Holland won't leave a roster spot open for him, he'll have to beat out an NHL veteran for that spot.
This AGM was created by a Habs fan, FYI.

This is crazy. You trade Ceci and Kulak for essentially nothing and then sign worse players to almost identical (but longer) contracts??

That's a whole lot to pay two guys who've each averaged around 15mins/game in their past few seasons. I'm not saying it's a guarantee they fail, but it's a lot to commit to players unproven as a top-4 D. That aside, I make a variety of different decisions: buyout Campbell, swap Perry with Brown, don't leave a spot for Bourgault (he needs more time), and I probably don't re-sign Henrique- though I'm not wholly opposed to it.

Sink or Swim
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>fredmo</b></div><div>I understand your thinkhing, however, the first line of RNH-97-Hyman is elite and the top pairing of Eki-Bouch is one of the best in the NHL. You don't just give that up.
I am with you on Ceci not being a pure cap dump. Seeing the alternatives and their potential AAv, I am reaching the point of thinking that keeping Ceci is a valid option. Same goes for Kulak.
I don't think that Lavoie will pay out and instead of Rodrigue I'd prefer a veteran backup goalie. Pickard-Skinner seem to work just fine.
McLeod should be turned into an two-way winger, I am with you on that. Who knows maybe Holloway can take a swing at being 3rd line C. But currently he is a good, fast winger.
That's also why I don't like Bert too much, because Kane should bring what Bertuzzi brings and the Oil is missing a definitive 3LC.</div></div>
I would definitely be going back to RNH-MCDAVID-HYMAN post TDL. This is opening night... they need to see what these prospects have b4 letting them hit the waiver wire, especially Rodrigue. He's been developing on a very similar level as Skinner. Hoping EDM wins a cup I assume Skinner would be leaned on as the veteran and no doubt #1, I believe that would make Rodrigue worth exploring. There are teams out there who would be willing to take a shot on him and claim.
I agree that Lavoie doesn't look promising yet but again worth testing the waters on an opening night roster with veteran players. Again, this is about creating opportunities for prospects to showcase whether or not they belong. If they struggle then waive them, trade them, etc. Best case they excel and the Oilers end up with bargain contracts they need for 29/97/2 extensions.

off season
Brodie may not be worth half that. Domi will get a better offer from Toronto, where he'd prefer to stay and play.
I'd much rather have Dostal than Skinner, and Boston isn't giving us Ullmark for that.
The NY Rangers trade is impossible.
You didn't sign any of our RFAs. LaCombe and Vaakanainen in particular will be on the team next season, and probably Leason.

how much to get boqvist
I don’t see the hype with Boqvist from Oilers fans. Personally, I rather go for a bigger defender who is more defensively responsible to play with Nurse. If it is a smaller guy, I wouldn’t mind Alex Carrier, but in my opinion, he is better defensively than Boqvist too.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>fredmo</b></div><div>Jeannot is not bringing what they hoped for. But TBL gave up an entire draft class for him basically, so this trade would be really bad for the Lightning.
I like the Heinen and DeMelo signings, but I don't like the contracts. DeMelo is high on my list, if he signs for significantly less, $3,5-4mn. I also like the fourth line, but I'd like them to be around 600k cheaper in total.</div></div>
what you're describing is the sunk cost fallacy exactly. yeah they payed a lot but it has not worked out, and there's more to be gained by moving him that keeping him

Hopeful Realistic Offseason
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>fredmo</b></div><div>I don't think that bringing the current RFAs and UFAs of EDM back will be this cheap. I estimate that it will cost around 20% more which leave approx. $1mn less for the RHD 2nd pair.
Additionally, I don't think that the Oilers will start with a 22 men roster. With a 20 men roster the 2nd line RHD could get $1.5mn more.
Henrique had a 50+P season and will be looking to get a contract around 5mn aav. I don't think he will settle for that much less.</div></div>
I imagine Debrusk likely gets more, if he signs a home town discount that looks like this I'd be happy but he's probably closer to 4.75M.
We may go back to 20 man but for the sake of this ACGM I put 22, I think (as we did this year) we will likely run a 21 man roster again.
Depends on what he's looking for, if its a short term deal on a non-contender with the hopes of a TDL trade (50% retained) he could get north of 4.5M.
If he wants to be on a contender at signing he's going to have to take a pay cut at this point in his career, I could make room for him at 3.5M by removing Kemp from the scratches though.

I think your version of the team is ENTIRELY too old. Average age of the forwards is 30.6 :grimace I'd replace Toffoli, Perry, and Gagner (maybe even Ryan) with players that are both younger and faster and then bump Brown down with Janmark. I'd also target someone younger than Tanev for 2RD.

Lindholm
Lindholm absolutely fits the Bruins needs but free agency is the sensible way to do it, if he gets there. Boston needs to be patient this year no matter how this season unfolds.
