Does Boston do this
So I get this straight. Your trading Justin Schultz for Devon shoe and 3rd rd pick THEN sending Devon shore, 3rd round pick and jack Johnson for 7th round pick. So Justin Schultz, jack Johnson, Devon shore and 3rd for a 7th. Please. Tell me what your day job is. I hope not with Merrill Lynch or stocks.

You have to protect NMC. NTC also.

2020 expansion team
They won’t re-sign Alex G. So he won’t count towards expansion draft because he’s considered a unrestricted free agent so they don’t have to protect him

2020 expansion team
Current NHL teams can protect seven forwards, three defensemen and one goalie, or eight skaters (forwards/defensemen) and one goalie, under the following conditions.
* All players with no movement clauses at the time of the draft, and who decline to waive those clauses, must be protected and will be counted toward their team's applicable protection limits.
* All first- and second-year NHL players, and all unsigned draft choices, will be exempt from selection (and will not be counted toward protection limits.
In addition, all NHL teams must meet the following minimum requirements regarding players exposed for selection in the draft:
* One defenseman who is a) under contract in 2021-22 and b) played in at least 40 NHL games the prior season or played in at least 70 NHL games in the prior two seasons.
* Two forwards who are a) under contract in 2021-22 and b) played at least 40 NHL games the prior season or played in at least 70 NHL games in the prior two seasons.
* One goalie who is under contract in 2021-22 or will be a restricted free agent at the end of his current contract immediately prior to 2021-22. If a team elects to make a restricted free agent goalie available to meet this requirement, that goalie must have received his qualifying offer prior to the submission of the team's protected list.
* Players with potential career-ending injuries who have missed more than the previous 60 consecutive games (or who otherwise have been confirmed to have a career-threatening injury) may not be used to satisfy a team's player exposure requirements unless approval is received from the NHL. Such players also may be deemed exempt from selection.

Seven forward you protect Jake Guentzel, dominik Kahun, Evegeni Malkin, Sidney Crosby, Bryan rust, Patrick Hörnqvist, Pontus Aberg
Defensemen you protect. Brian Dumoulin, Marcus Pettersson and Kris Letang
Goalie is Matt Murray.
And you over 17 million next year with Murray, Kahun, Del Zotto and McCann as ur must resign free agents.

Couple moves
I don’t want to get rid of Bjugstad but had to dump salary to get the, all in. Gusev I believe you can get for that price for a year to play with Malkin. then in 2020 you have 20 Million with only Alex G and Justin S. As UFA.

I like the long term outlook also. 9 mil is cap space and only have to sign dwindle and Jensen as Ufa and a couple lower Rfa.

The only reason I think Domi would even be a shot is because they head coach R.T was our coach last year. He knows what we have in the minors and maybe willing to work a deal.
Pacioretty would be a complete pipe dream. I can dream

Staal contract runs too long...6 more years of 6 million. No thanks. We can get a player like Sam Gagner for 3.1 million and get just as good of production and not have to have the long term cap hit.

PENS 2018 & beyond
If Rick Tocchet goes to coach at Arizona, which it is reported a strong possible. Kessel loves his coaching and Tocchet loves Kessel. If you can shed Matta, Pouliet and Sheary salaries and future cap hit, sign Vanek for two years. Sign RFA De Haan. Going into after this year you have 18 million in cap space with Hornqvist, Reaves, Gagner, Rowney, Sceviour and Cole as UFA. Resign Gagner, Sceviour and Rowney (if you get good deal). you have a plethora of UFA in Rust, Wilson, Kuhnhackl, Domi. Sprong. All of those you give three year contracts after the season. Wishful thinking but Defense (dumloin (RFA 3) Letang (RFA 5) Schultz (RFA3) Hunwick (RFA3) and De Haan (RFA4) Ruhwedel (RFA2) in this scenario. Plus you also have 11 picks in first three rounds next three years.
