never even considered carlson coming back home but hey look at shattenkirk. this defense would be a major upgrade, especially if mueller impresses and the devs can fetch butcher

Trying for the quick turnaround?
Nice outside the box thinking but i still think the devils need to hold on to this year's first rounder. the Metro is way too stacked right now for the Devils to have a good chance at the playoffs. and even tho tanev is a very solid addition, greene's older, lovejoy is a human pylon, moore only has some offensive qualities, and mueller is a big question mark, making the defense only slightly better. its very likely that this is a lottery team and for a chance to draft rasmus dahlin, the devils need to hold this pick

didnt forget just decided to leave that headache out of this. hes meeting with SKA but even if he was definitely coming back to the NHL, people always criticize the return you would put for him in a sign and trade. i just stuck with ufa and rfa signings on this one.

1st Overall ! oooh freakin baby so hyped ! pls comment :)
This team is a few years away from contention as it is, and your trades here don't seem to help much. Sure, you picked up some nice pieces, but trading Nico Hischier and Micheal Mcleod, arguably two of the Devils biggest assets going forwards, might even push this team further back. Ray knows to do the rebuild and do it the right way so this team is set up for long term success. Also this year's draft picks are off the table when it comes to a Kovalchuk trade, as he can only be signed by the Devils on July 1st at the earliest.

Kovy and 1 pick to habs for a lot
I like the outside the box thinking of this deal but there are a few things you forgot:
1. Kovalchuk can't be signed until July 1, a week after the draft, making any picks in this year's draft useless in a Kovalchuk trade
2. The Devils have never picked first overall in franchise history. That alone is pretty significant and gives this pick somewhat of a nostalgia boost, as it provides alot of hope to a franchise that was once the embodiment of success.
3. The return for said pick would have to be substantial. Here, you're giving both the first overall pick and a bonafide scorer (and Jon Merrill) for Galchenyuk, a 20-something pick, and two second rounders, a return that is not only impossible, but is pretty much fleecing the Devils. To incquire about the first pick alone would require Sergachev, Montreal's first, and possibly Galchenyuk.

There is no chance in hell the Devils leave Kyle Palmieri exposed to the expansion draft. He's the teams second biggest offensive threat behind Taylor Hall and one of the few Devils that didn't drop his production this season.

Devils Possible 2017-18
I like both Nolan Patrick and Nico Hischier for this team. They both show alot of potential. There is downside with Patrick as he have a history of injuries, but he does he chemistry with Devils prospect John Quenneville from playing together for the Brandon Wheat Kings. We just have to be sure that we pick the best one, as the Flyers will most likely take the other and if we mess that up it will haunt us for years.
I have hears rumors that Kovalchuk would have to make the same amount on his contract as previous years, but since there is no confirmation to these I'll say I could see them signing Kovy for slightly less. Probably around 6 mill if possible.
There is no chance in hell we get Kevin Shattenkirk on this team for 5.25 million for 5 years. This is the contract where he's either going to join his childhood team (our hated rivals) or get paid. If we do get him, to be honest the minimum is 7 million but he's probably going to get more.
Either way I'm so ******* hyped that they won this pick. LGD

Larsson for Hall
To say that Larsson is a good player and is giving the Oilers something they sorely lacked for a long time is one thing but saying "oh he has more playoff goals than Taylor Hall" doesn't give enough credit to Hallsy as a player, that led the Oilers in points for basically his whole career while the Oilers were a full dumpster fire. McDavid is the reason the Oilers are where they are, not Adam Larsson
Still happy about that trade though

NJD 2017-18 Perfect Offseason
I want Nico Hischier on this team so ******* bad it's unreal. Having him, Zacha, and McLeod all develop to their full potential would make the Devils lethal down the middle in a few years. McLeod is tearing it up right now for Mississauga, and Zacha started showing signs of improvement towards the end of the season.
The Devils need to go all out for Shattenkirk for two reasons:
1. This defense is atrocious and signing him would be an instant upgrade. Especially if they are able to make a good, smaller signing as well.
2. If Shattenkirk is a Devil, then he is not a Ranger, which would definitely be something to smile about.
Kovalchuk would undoubtedly provide more veteran experience to this team that is getting younger. If he is able to transition back like Radulov did I would be thrilled. I think the situation has alot of potential upside for New Jersey if:
a. he's good, the whole team clicks and somehow make it back to the playoffs
b. he's good but the team doesn't click so we trade him for everything we can at the Trade Deadline
c. he wants to do a sign & trade to go immediately to a cup contender and the trade works out in our favor
The only way the Devils really do lose in this Kovalchuk situation is if he decides to sit out the 2017-18 season and become a UFA next season, with the Devils losing him for nothing.
The only way an offseason like you posted could get better is if Shero is able to take advantage of a team before the expansion draft and we get some good players.

fresh up team!! comment!!!
I like the idea of signing Bonino. Zajac is our only solid center right now. While Zacha may improve soon and begin playing more at center than as a wing, and McLeod may be making the jump to the show, and (oh my god i really ******* hope this happens) we get lucky & draft Hischier, I like signing Bonino. He's consistent and in my opinion, better at the position than Henrique. That being said, he'll probably ask for more money.
Believe me I am all for getting both Oshie and Shattenkirk. That would help speed up this rebuild and give us a much better chance at being a contender in the next 1-2 seasons. It would also show Taylor Hall that we are serious about giving him a chance to win in the playoffs (I know it's a little early to worry about that but after enduring Parise abandoning us and Kovalchuk making us Kovalf**ked I think I have a right). But I have my doubts we will get either. If I have to choose which between the two to pursue more aggressively, I'm all in for Shattenkirk, given the abysmal state that the once proud defense of the New Jersey Devils has come to.
I really like signing Parenteau and Kinkaid back. Parenteau was one of the few Devils on the bottom six that I liked and he also seemed to enjoy being on this team. With Wedgewood being out in Albany for an extended time due to injury, and not wanting to push Blackwood before he's ready for the NHL, Kinkaid is a fine backup. He also likes this team and the direction that it's heading.
With the Kovalchuk trade, unless the Hurricanes go out and pursue another top six forward like Duchene and decide to get Kovalchuk to provide veteran experience to the young team, I can't really see Carolina as being one of the teams that will really want him. I like the return here but I just don't see it. I've seen alot of Habs fans talking more about making a push for Kovy, which make sense given the fact that they're in win now mode and Radulov seamlessly transitioned back into being a good player in the NHL. Even though most of them don't post what I would consider a fair return for him (best possible return I've seen was Galchenyuk), if Kovalchuk wants to do a sign and trade, I really believe Montreal will try to pursue him.

Cupcake Pucks
I like Justin Williams. He's a Conn Smythe winner. He's a proven goalscorer. He's extremely ******* clutch. I just don't like him on this team. He's 35 years old, and even though he's still raking, I can't see Shero taking him after he has said again and again how he wants to build a strong young core for the Devils. If they get lucky in the lottery and move up to the first or second pick, then that's a different story and he could help mentor either Patrick or Hischier. Aside from that though, I can't see Shero wanting him, as crazy as that is.
Shattenkirk will probably want a bit more than 6.8 mil. I think 7 mil and upwards is more likely what he's going to get. And if the Devils can get him that would be fantastic given the current shape of this defense (i don't know what shape chaos is, but it's chaos)
