That Oleksiak-Bogosian pairing would be a nightmare to endure, and not for the opposition. Oleksiak's only upside is that he's 7 feet tall. Bogosian is all but washed. A Dermott-Hakanpaa pairing would both be much more cost-effective and on-ice productive.

Edmonton declines the Reilly trade. Great player, not what they need. Nor do I think this is the kind of return that I think Dubas would find acceptable. The picks - and resultant players they become - are too far out to help the Leafs win now. If the plan is to go all-in on Sandin (which I think is a mistake) then the goal of the Leafs management is to bring in equal value in the form of players or NHL-ready prospects. Stuff that helps the Leafs win today and tomorrow, not just tomorrow. I do still think that a defence with a left side that features all of Reilly, Muzzin, Sandin, and has Dermott waiting in the wings is far better than what you have here or anything post-Reilly trade. I don't necessarily think he needs to be brought back but unless you're getting that equivalent, NHL-ready value, he's better off as an internal rental.

If Dubas is dead-set on trading the guy, look to the Flyers. Some package built around Hagg, Patrick, and another roster player or prospect gives the Leafs those minor, complimentary pieces to address holes with on the roster, sustain their winning through longer team-controlled contracts, and frees up some form of cap space or at least balances its utilization, all while the other club in question draws genuine value out of the deal.
