OMG. hahahahahha</i></div></div>
Your absolutely right Burns is not a 200 foot player but babcock loves having one dementional players on his rosters. Where was PK Subban the year after winning the Norris....oh that's right in the luxury box and he played like 10 min that tournament. Why was that? because like burns he is one dementional. So Martinez was on the World Cup team for a reason and I think that was because he can play 20 -25 min and plays a Shutdown role which babcock needs on the roster. It was a tough choice but I went for the player that will help not just on 5v5 but also on the PK.

Well, Reilly and Marner. Though Subban is a better offensive player Reilly is a far better 200 foot player and Marner could by the Olympics be a top 25 player in the NHL.

Thanks for the invite Flamed. Lucky I haven't had my breakfast yet, other wise something might be "coming up." Even someone trolling, usually a some touch of reality to make you wonder, if the writer is serious.
On a more real note. Wasn't that a great outdoor game yesterday? I'm not usually a fan of the such games, but the ice and weather was great. And nine goals. Very entertaining.</i></div></div> The watched the first 35 minutes of the outdoor game and it was rather slow. Wish I had continued to watch past that point as all the other goals were scored roughly there after and the game got more exciting. You have to say that Kadri getting paid 5M a season to score 30 points and be a shutdown guy is a ltitle much. I probably need to reevaluate the Fowler trade but Kadri going to Vegas saves the Leafs a bad contract as Matthews is slowly filling the role of shutdown forward while also being able to score on a more regular basis</i></div></div>
So when does a 4.5 and on pace for round 50 points a bad contract? Kadri is a solid versatile center with a solid contract for what he brings to the team. Matthews becoming "the" Shutdown C is not how this team will be built. The plan is having 3 versatile lines with a Gauthier type center playing the junk minute Shutdown role. So though Matthews will play a more versatile role in the future we will need a Kadri and probably Nylander playing a similar role....look at babcocks olympic teams who does he play more the 200 foot players or the Offensive players. So no Kadri will not be gift wrapped to Vagas if they want him they will have to pay up.

I agree that we might be difficult to make the playoffs this season. But I do think it all depends on what happens in free agency if we're a WC or top 3. I think we are a quality shutdown top 4, a quality backup goalie away from being serious contenders next year.

I actually think this is a fair deal...the thing u need to remember is that Fluery is actually a top 10 goalie in this league he just happens to be hind a top 5 goalie so just cause Fluery is a backup goalie doesn't mean he can't be the answer in goal....the only concern does he want to go to WPG...and I would say yes....it's a young talented team that if they had a top 10 goalie could actually do alot of damage but I could see it being a 1st this year. starting to hear alot of rumblings that this may not be the greatest draft year so playoff teams will be more likely to trade them away this year.

I agree though I personally think he is not an ideal candidate to play in the top 6 for any team Babcock really likes him and seem to think he has alot of upside. So odds are Hyman will not be traded this offseason or deadline. But if we are still in the bottom 10 at the deadline I could see Bozak being talked about. I like him but if they truly want Nylander at center he is the odd man out.

Will Ny The Trade Guy
The only way a player with the upside of Nylander is Traded is to get a proven top pair shutdown RHD and I would probably trade Kapanen before Nylander due to Nylander's Versitity. So though Edmonton Got Stoned one night and Traded an all star for a 2nd pair dman no good GM would have made that trade as it stands.

JVR trade
As a leaf fan we can do so much better than a temperamental 2nd pair dman. And I know some Jets and Redwing fans will hate that but unless he really improves his offensive game he is only a high end 2nd pair D. Saying that you are absolutely right if the leafs want Trouba they will have to overspend and give up Reilly who though not as physical is a better overall hockey player. But if in 2-3 years if Trouba wants out they will have to take the best offer available and if it's a solid top line LW, depth player and a solid pick than they will take it. Every team wants the moon when they are not really interested on trading but they always have a realistic value they only know that they will take for a player. Right now neither the leafs nor Redwings have what the Jets want or they are unwilling to give it to them (ie Larkin).

I do see him as a top 4 player but I don't see him being worth JVR. Also, if he had a problem with his personality in Boston and he did have an effort issue in Boston when not paired with Chara this was well known when looking at his advanced stats. My concern is what if he is Gardiners or Reilly's partner and has to play a more defensive role?? this is what caused the issues in Boston.

You do realize first of all you are over cap. Also, Calgary was trying to trade Hamilton while he was struggling they seem to pull him from the trade market. Also, we don't need cap dump in Wideman unless we collapse and he has a NMC so are you sure toronto was not on the list? We are by projections overachieving right now.

Can you or somebody else explain to my why the leafs would even consider a cap dump like Hamilton where he doesn't put 100% in every game and putting him in a market where slackers get eaten alive?</i></div></div>
To say that Hamilton is a cap dump is extreme. He fills a great need and puts up solid numbers. Hamilton also possess good potential that could be tapped under the right coach. Are you telling me that Hamilton wouldn't improve our top-4? The kid is certainly a top-4 guy that could develop into a top-2 guy. Let's not overlook his Boston days when many considered him to be better than Rielly. You just don't lose that talent over a season. In regards to your comment about him not putting in 100%, the Leafs are trying to build a culture here centred on winning and hard work. I'm not sure that Shanahan and company would pursue a player that they believe won't contribute to this culture.</i></div></div>
That is exactly my point there were issues with his Effort in Boston that's why they traded him. Also, he would only improve our roster if he starts playing more consistently. So seeing we agree to this why would The leafs give JVR when Hamilton is not worth that right now. You don't trade at value they should be only where they are at the time of the trade. The leafs have not made any play for Hamilton as far as I know cause Calgary are looking for top tier players for him even though he is not worth that right now. So until he improves he is at full salary a cap dump. The need is a consistent physical top 4/ Top 2 RHD so be honest with your self he is neither.

Leafs in 2018 season opener
JVR is a similar LW to Ladd and He only got 5.5 per year so what makes JVR worth more than Ladd? Also, if ge wanted to stay in Toronto and finish this he will need to leave money on the table. Marincin, Smith, and Lepsic are Depth forwards on this roster which prospects do you wish to stunt to put in the press box? Nylander is a talented player but if we can keep Bozak who all do respect to Nylander is a better 2way player than Nylander that gives us more versitity in the roster. Also, I am hopeful Nylander leaves money on the table when he signs seeing if he wishes to play with Matthews, and Marner and compete for cups all players will need to just like Kadri, and Reilly did this past offseason. I do have concerns about our LW situation seeing though skilled we seem to lack players that can create space for themselves and their teammates and JVR at around 5 and Komarov at 3.5 will allow us to minimize free agent signings that always seem to cost more.

To be honest I think Arizona is going to be able to demand a little more than a cap dump one decent 2nd/3nd pair dman prospect and a 2nd in 2018. Arizona might have had their hand out when they were going bankrupt but they're not a charity. Also, he is probably going to sign a longterm 5-5.5 million per not a shower contract.

Palhal is right if the leafs wanted Hammond they would have just claimed him. Also, St. Louis is on its own cup run this year so they will be upgrading at looking at this year's team not where they will be in 5 years. Lastly, Though I understand your excitement we are not on a cup run this year. Now saying that if we make the playoffs and have a Cinderella run that is different but all likely hood we will make moves that are not rentals right now seeing we still have massive holes in our forwards, and on defense.

Not bad but I'm hoping that they will find an upgrade for Matthews wing. Hyman though a decent 4th line forward does not have the skill set to help Matthews and in the offensive zone is worthless.
