Still able to push for Playoffs
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div><i>Matty: You may be right there is no room on the Leafs for Leipsic and Rychel. But have you seen much of Leipsic and his play in the AHL? Leafs aren't holding back Leipsic and bring Soshnikov, Smith, Gauthier ahead of Leipsic and Rychel for reasons. He isn't NHL good in the eyes of the Leaf management.
Every AHL team has guys that their fan base loves and to think a four year pro that didn't get his chance in Nashville and now the Leafs will suddenly transform into a NHL good winger?....defies the odds. And as result as virtually zero trading value.</i></div></div>
Honestly, I've read reports where it's only a matter of when not if Lepsic is playing for the leafs. The reason Lepsic and Kapanen have not been called up is due to the they are learning how to be complete players and are on the top PK for the Marlies to develop that skill. I also think that the leafs have not been rittled with injuries this year and no one has played poorly enough to give them playing time in ACC. Also, they are going off the philosophy of not getting too young too quickly. Lepsic and Kapanen could depending on what the leafs due this offseason be on the roster.

What's with all the Nylander bashing
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div><i><div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DirtyDangles</b></div><div><i>Because Leaf fans are not the sharpest knives in the drawer.
All preseason we saw JVR/Bozak/Komorov traded all over because their contracts are up soon so better move them! All these players that Leaf fans want to move are more than likely the reason the Leafs are playing so well. Leaf fans subconsciously want to be bottom dwellers forever.</i></div></div>
Dangles. Unfortunately this site encourages more "trading" than "team building". And many Leaf fans on this site, seem to think it necessary to trade all upcoming UFAs (even the ones that come up in 2018) at the expense of winning (winning by Leaf standards) for. this year and next.
I really wonder about the depth of knowledge of many fans when it seem Bozak or JVR are trading constantly to contenders. Aren't there other player on other teams who may not make the playoffs available for trades also?
An example a few months ago was the Tanev trades from Vancouver. Seems like 60% of the trades had Tanev coming to the Leafs. Couldn't their been other teams that would have valued Tanev also?
Your last line might be right for some Leaf fans. Seem that some want to trade, trade, trade since the Leafs aren't winning the Cup this year or next and then by magic, all these trades (which. keep the Leafs out of the playoffs will magically in the future make them Cup winners. So from out of the playoffs with Matthews, and friends for another four years and then suddenly five years a Cup winner.
Again, it seems to lack of thought and what it makes to build a team, which will make a winner.</i></div></div>
Though I wouldn't trade JVR for just any player. IF the Leafs were to get some quality prospects and a 1st I think it would be considered. Shanahan has stated that they are still in rebuild and that a Kessel type trade without retaining money would be listened to. For example if MTL offered Jullsen, Fucale, De la Rose and depth player with no year remaining and a 1st I think it would be listen to. But no I agree JVR and Bozak will not be traded for the sake of trading.

The Islanders were the only team that immediately came to mind for who has players that met the criteria for the trade. Hamonic is not untradable but it would take a quality young player to peak their interest. Snow would have to be stupid to trade Hamonic.

Though I see that as a fair deal my understanding is COL want an absurd amount for him so it's not enough unless they get a clue and understand he is just a serviceable top 6 winger with leadership ability.

Nothing cause they are not trading unproven prospects. But if it was part to get a young RHD that has shutdown ability than I'd be fine with it.

What prospect?? listen Duclair is not adjusting to the NHL and needs a fresh start and Stone is having an off year and is not going to be resigned cause they openly have told everyone they are looking to trade him. Also, just cause edmonton thinks an all star forward is the cost for a 2nd pair dman doesn't mean every canadian team is that stupid.

Learn to read the explanation. I stated Doan retiring, the need for leadership. Duclair is regressing with the prospects comming up is probably expendable.

The only way STL does that trade is if we take cap dump. Also, though I like Bozak in my opinion he is the odd man out Kadri has developed into a Solid shutdown C that can generate 40-50 PTS a season and signed longterm. Bozak though a solid center if Nylander is moving back to center which I feel is his natural position he is the odd one out.

Why would the leafs bring back Grabovski? Even for a cap dump. I would take Kulemin before Garbo seeing he is at least a sold 4th line forward still.

This trade is too one sided a fair trade though I doubt the leafs would do it is JVR, Bozak, Gardiner, Nylander, Kapanen, and this year's 1st for Tavares, and Hamonic.

Though I agree that Tkachuk is not on the block...JVR is not underperfoming actually he is maybe one of the best contracts in the NHL right now...so please make your point but stop being ridiculous....thanks

1st the only player the leafs might be interested in might be Landesog for his leadership seeing that him and JVR skill wise are very similar. But saying that the leafs are not interested in trading away prospects right now they have even said this on the record.

I agree that this trade is a no go for both teams. Also Nylander might just be inconsistent due to that he is a natural center playing on the wing.

I think what Palhal is getting at is that if our young players keep improving cause they are still developing and getting better and we get a dman or 2 in free agency that complement our existing players they will be dangerous so why would we help Philly by gift wrapping JVR by not getting fair value.

Rebuild
Though I can see why these could make sense I think there are some issues. 1st RNH is not worth Hamonic edmonton would need to retain 1-2 million and that would be fair. Also, I'm getting the feeling players don't like playing at the Barclays so at the money the Islanders are offering there will be a few contenders that will sign Alzner at that price also Tavares is rumoured to be exploring free agency just like Orakpo did so if that happens Alzner is stuck in a full rebuild so that's a risk.

The Toronto Maple Leafs V2.
I really hope we can find players better than Polak and Hunwick in free agency. Though I do think the CAR trade is fair I'm getting the feeling the leafs are not going to trade prospects right now unless they are not in their future plans and Kapanen is in their plans. I don't think they are looking for goalie prospects right now so I would think that they are looking for draft picks and/or prospects for Bozak. The Philly trade I would really like to see a 2017 1st on that trade due to that I'm getting the feeling they are looking for a Kessel type payoff without retaining money.

Well, though I he's having an off year cause of the injury at the world cup Ekblad should improve next year. Also, when possible historically they do try and keep pairings together so I could see Muzzin seeing how he complements Doughty so well. Also, who is your PK dman? So though I agree if the refs don't handicap us with bad penalties (cause they never do that) this team would very good but it's not a Babcock roster so who is your coach?

Well I doubt PK Subban is on the roster babcock hates One dementional players. Same goes with Letang. Perry is not the player he once was. So though they might be able to win if Babcock is still the coach which I would think is still the case they will probably not be on this roster.
