Created by: MattyMadden28
Team: 2017-18 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 8, 2017
Published: Jan. 9, 2017

Description
Drafted in the bottom 15 in 2017. Traded for Drouin as Tampa makes a move to stay competitive now with another year of half JVR and Bozaks salary. As well as a young winger in Kapanen who is on an ELC for three years but could play a scoring role. Toronto get a slightly older and more expensive (also proven) LWer in Drouin. Filppula fills a short term hole.

I think Filppula would be good in Toronto, but maybe in a swap for Bozak.

If you took Bozak and Flippula out and it was
JVR 1/2 retained Kapanen 2nd for Drouin, does this make sense. I think Getting JVR for one year at 2.1mm and Kappy and the pick for a young dynamic player that Tampa won't want to pay makes sense for both. Long term it is kappy and a second for Drouin so it's good for the leafs. Tampa didn't want to pay Kucherov so I'd imagine with palat and Johnson coming up for raise and with Drouins history (and potential offer sheets) this could keep them competitive for next year with JVR and keep the future potential with kappy and his 3yr ELC.

Why would the leafs bring back Grabovski? Even for a cap dump. I would take Kulemin before Garbo seeing he is at least a sold 4th line forward still.

Grabo is on LTIR. Terrible risk to the Leafs cap, if he comes back to play. If he stays in LTIR why would the Isles trade good prospect Pulock for soon to be UFA Komarov.
I'm sure Lou and friends are not looking fondly at paying Drouin 6m, when Nylander, Matthews and Marner are coming due in a few years.
