Really like this.
It's crazy to me to think that this team looks so good on paper and it all really is riding on whether or not Panarin will resign....
I really hope he does.

CBJ Opening Night
Since there haven't been any trade rumors I would assume so, ThatGuy. But I wouldn't be surprised if he was moved this summer when he is at his most valuable trade-wise. I'm open to either but Wings391710 makes some good points as well regarding keeping him.
Artemi has stated through his agent that he loves playing here and with the team/staff but isn't sure he wants to stay in Columbus (which I totally understand being from the east side of Columbus-it's a bore).
It will be interesting to see what Jarmo does.

I sure hope this doesn't happen because CBJ pretty much need Panarin to score or we become a 60pt a year team.

What about a trade to send Jenner, Milano, Dubinsky and 1 or 2 picks for Skinner and Teravainen? Think that would get it done?

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>matt59</b></div><div>I too would love to see Bob stay. Genuinely seems like a great person like you said, and he has definitely been one of the best in the world for multiple years now. I do think more of the blame for the "playoffs form" needs to be on the defense. Even in the Pens series last year he made some excellent saves. But too many instances of blown coverage, lazy defensive play and when you're playing Washington or Pittsburgh... they will score. Doesn't really matter who the goalie is, if you make mistakes, they'll make you pay. The only issue is the money, which is unfortunate, but that's also professional sports :/</div></div>
Exactly my thoughts. Bob is our absolute best option in net right now and for the foreseeable future.
As for the money, I feel like we could get away with keeping Bob, Panarin and Werenski.
It would all depend on how much they are willing to sign for or if they would take slightly discounted contracts. That's all something that I have no real grasp of since I've never been paid to play hockey, lol.
But it could be possible if we got rid of Dubinsky and Savard if we can sign Bjorkstrand for less than $2M and try to get Letestu to take a home-town discount.
I don't know though...
I will be honest, I wouldn't mind us signing Panarin and Bob and trading Werenski away to get some picks and/or players to flesh out and beef up our team. Werenski is a great young talent but I would rather have Jones

I feel like this is paying way too much for Bjorkstrand. I'd be surprised if we end up paying him more than $2M a year.
My biggest concern for this team is about signing Panarin, Bob and Werenski next year.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Bluejackets2000</b></div><div>A soft rebuild is in order. I really like the young core of the team (Dubois, Wennberg, Bjorkstrand, Anderson, Jenner, Panarin, Murray, Werenski, Jones, etc.).
We both agree that Dubi needs to go for no other reason than the salary dump, and he just doesn't score or make the wingers around him better anymore.
Upgrade the team down the middle of the ice with another strong, experienced two-way Centre, not necessarily a superstar, but just a solid 2C/3C player.
If not Stastny, how about several UFAs with decent numbers...Kyle Brodziak, Derek Ryan, Tyler Bozak, or Nash (RILEY, NOT RICK!!!). <strong>What about trying to sign Beagle?</strong>
IMHO, Cole appears to be a good replacement for JJ, but only at the right price.<strong>1000000% agree.</strong>
Bailing out on Bob would probably make the team worse in the short term.
Keep Bob for 1 more year, see where the cards fall, and if there is any inclination that he is looking for too much $$$, trade his rights for a draft pick (2nd, 3rd, etc.) rather than losing him. <strong>Agree as well. We have nobody who could step in and be as good as/help the team out as much as Bob and we'd have to lose a lot just to get someone comparable.</strong>
The fact of the matter is the veterans brought in at the deadline did only so much (Vanek, Cole, Letestu), but our<strong><em> inexperience, special teams, and coaching decision to shorten the bench really cost us big time. THIS THIS THIS
</em></strong>
Also, last thought, I have mentioned in other posts, but am to lazy to read this thread again, so if I repeat myself, I apologize...for Bjorkstrand's new contract, his numbers mirror Anderson's last year, so I hope he signs but that we do not over-pay him based on Anderson's contract. I would think $2M max would be fair.</div></div>

True, true.
If I'm being honest, I would love for Columbus to keep him until retirement. But I am partial to Bob as a goalie myself. I truly believe that he is a top 5 worldwide goaltender on any given night, playoffs included. He played very well all year and last year. And every time I've met him he's always been very kind. (He loves it if you can speak a little bit of Russian)

Rightly or wrongly, based on Bob's lack of success in playoffs, this will probably be some leverage in the contract negotiations come 2019.
Instead of $10M-$12M, they can probably get him signed for $8.5M-$9M max.</div></div>
I'd say a 4 year $9M would be acceptable. He'll be about 34 by then and we will have Korpisalo ready to start taking over should his play start to tank.
What do you all think?

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>matt59</b></div><div>100% agree with almost everything. I think given the ice time Bjorkstrand can fill that 2RW role. He’s got similar/better offensive output than Rickard Rakell. Only difference is that Rakell has a bigger frame and was better defensively. Anderson was decent imo. Needs to tighten up his discipline for sure tho.</div></div>
For sure. Anderson needs to continue to grow and gain more discipline. And I can agree that Bjorkstrand could fill that 2RW role. Hopefully he buffs up this summer.

Jackets back to the playoffs
Bob.... for Talbot? No.
That is just ridiculous. Bobrovsky was one of our best players all year and in the playoffs.
Believe me, I understand that he has let 3 goals in every single playoff game he has played and I understand that he hasn't been nearly as good in the playoffs as he is in the regular season.
Consider this;
Over the last 3 regular seasons, he has a sv% of .932 at even strength, higher than any goalie in the NHL with 160+ games played over the same period. And in the playoffs he had an even strength sv% of .926. Last year it was only .898. He's also had more even strength saves (150) than any other goalie in the post season this year and faced around 38 shots a game over those 6 games. And despite having a .827 sv% on penalty kills he also has 43 saves on the penalty kill in those 6 games, which is 11 more than the next goalie (Vasilevsky) and almost double the two after him combined.
Bob is literally one of the top 3 goaltenders in the world and is 29 years old. He is the BEST option that Columbus has and we would be fools to trade him away and replace him with anyone in our system, and even worse to replace him with Cam Talbot, who proved this year that if his team fails, he does too.
Oh.... would you look at that... that's the basis of everyone's argument against Bob in Columbus. The team failed so it must be his fault.

All I feel confident in saying is that without Bob we would have been swept.
I honestly think that we need to make some changes in regards to the way this team plays on special teams. 5 on 5 we are a very good team but we lack in the special teams department and when you're taking numerous penalties (which is probably due to youth/inexperience) you can NOT have a terrible PK.
And in the playoffs you have got to be able to capitalize on power-plays-which we failed to do on a consistent basic.
It sucks seeing us drop 4 straight games like that but it wasn't surprising.
We went up against a team that has been top of the metro for 3 years and lost in the areas that I figured we would. I said it from the beginning; the Blue Jackets will have to win every home ice game that we play or we will not advance. As soon as we lost game 3 I figured it might go to 7 games and once we lost game 4 I figured we were done in 6.
I would love to see us drop Dubinsky because he is way over-paid and we are going to need that cap space for guys like Bob, Panarin, and Werenski. And we know that Johnson won't be coming back (thank God.)
I hope we can bring in some guys who can fill out the 4th line and 3rd D-pairing and possibly get someone to compete with Anderson for 2nd line RW because I am unimpressed with him after this season/playoffs.

Would rather see a draft pick instead of Milano in that trade. But I think having a hard working and talented elite center like Tavares could be exactly what Columbus needs to compete for the Cup.
