2017-18 without Plekanec
Good lineup, a few thoughts: Do you really see Beaulieu and Danault in their respective spots, or is it just like a "maybe" spot. Also, thought on Plekanec, is Vegas likely to not take him just to force Montreal to blink on Shipachev and Radulov?
Would love to see this lineup tear it up, biggest benefit is they lose nothing when bringing in players from the KHL (modest trade for Kovalchuk)

It looks like a great lineup top to bottom, one concern: are Russian players going to be able/interested to jump into the NHL when it's going to be in conflict with Olympics? I would love to see Montreal solve center just curious if this year can happen.

So I think Nesterov is considered a player who will return to Russia to play in KHL, IDK that for sure but even if he's not: the guy didn't play well over the playoffs and barely earned ice-time if the defense was healthy, can I ask what you're seeing in his play? I've definitely seen glimmers of him having good offensive touch, just not sure he has the consistency or confidence.

This is fantasy, but one of those holes you reference IS in goal. It would be much easier for them to throw some money around in Free Agentcy to fill other spots (they're not going to fill a superstar center spot admittedly, but Price also isn't in his twilight years either). I think the bigger question and hurdle is what they do with the goalie tandem they already have, Lehtonen and Niemi, if one gets picked up by Vegas would still present cap concerns.

Rumor: What would Pavelski cost?
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Kiekenapp</b></div><div>where did you see this rumor? just curious</div></div>
It was on some facebook sports page, I'm not sure which one tbh. But it was just saying that basically it looked like all the teams which had just been eliminated had been inquiring into Pavelskis availability.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Blazingbat11</b></div><div>It wouldn't cost them anything!!!...want to know why? SJ are probably losing Thornton this summer, do you really think their going to give up their #1 center and leave Couture by himself !... lets see who else they have... Tierney (Who?) Hertl can take faceoffs but is preferable on the wing. And even if SJ keep Thornton, they would still be decimated at center in a conference/division that needs your team to have depth at that position. (ANA with Getzlaf/Kesler, LAK with Kopitar/Carter, EDM with Mcdavid/Draisaitl).
So if SJ would even consider trading Pavelski, they would need another top tier center coming back. (and don't say Galchenyuk when even the habs can't tell if he's a center)
All this to say I would love for the habs to get Pavelski lol not going to happen.</div></div>
So straight up I agree, when I saw the post I was like what really? I'm asking for speculation on what the price might be, I'm fully aware that any team trading away their captain who put up like 70 points this season (which is actually down from last year) isn't doing it lightly. And to be fair here, we don't know that Thorton is walking (I wouldn't be surprised if both Marleau and Big Joe stay).
As far as moving PAvelski they MAY view it as the cost for balancing this team a bit towards youth, you keep Marleau and Thorton for a couple more years but trade away a 32 year old Pavelski for younger talent. IDK just a thought.

Fantasy
Also with regards to Radulov I agree he could probably make more and maybe 5 years instead of 4 at 6 definitely, however I'd point out: he's a 54 point producer, and did have his ups/downs in a Habs jersey this year (along with the team). As recently as Game 1, he was being talked about as maybe not getting an extension due to his play, of course that changed but it's to say he hasn't been so consistent. Regarding his cap, I'd say I did select 6 for a reason, best comparison is Plekanec (average of 50+ points and lifelong hab and he's a center, gets 6 at good term, also Markov in a similar consideration as a Defense). Beyond that, the best players on this team are Price & Weber, earning more for their own reasons (Webers was handuffed by arbitration).
Can Radulov put up more points? I think yes, especially in my fantasy thread working with either Hanzal or Duchene and maybe even more so if he had Chucky Duchene Radulov on our top line. But the fact remains for me, Montreal can offer him what's competitive and fair at 6 for 5, if he wants more because he can make more then it'll be sad to see him go. I don't believe that more will prove to be supported in his future production.

Fantasy
So thanks for the feedback! Yes I agree that the defense was something I was not entirely sure of, however I would say that I took a liberty with regards to Sergachev. Him being what has been lacking, offensive and sound two-way. It is my opinion that the top pairing is one suited to each other, skilled and dangerous but not a 30 minute pair for the regular season. Need to see chemistry with Petry and I've loved Benn so far, we would see obviously (I'll take the defense being our weakness, at the end of the day if the improvements down the middle help the offense as it should and we have a healthy Price then we're good).
As far as Beaulieu, I agree it might be a consideration for Colorado - I like Shore because he's a safer contract (RFA) that has put up 30+ points on Dallas so to me I'd take him if it was doable. That said, of course the main goal was Duchene so if Sakic wants Beau then it'd be in the cards. I honestly didn't like how everyone doing fantasy would just throw him in, stand alone Beaus value is good and Dallas definitely wants help on D.

Game #2
I like those adjustments, not just Chucky but giving Radulov a bit more relief maybe? I think Juliens thoughts were that Galchenyuk hasn't synced with anyone in his tenure and 4th line would at best spread his offense maybe? keep him rested for late game opportunities?
He clearly wanted to play the body and work this series (Zuccarello will be in a wheelchair by game 7 at this rate) and honestly the strategy could easily have worked if we didn't get an unlikely goal scored by Glass...

If Islanders are crazy enough to trade Tavares

Think the trade is good adding Sergachev would totally be overpaying</div></div>
I agree, I think it's a matter of people looking and saying Sergachev is a stronger prospect and thinking it should be him because of that but in reality: Galchenyuk is a replacement center (younger and shows offensive promise, admittedly a step down at center but that's what happens when you trade away tavares), Juulson is a very good prospect at defense (which means they'll have flexibiility with him in the next 2-3 years, he's not a risk to lose and lets them build for a future team), 1st rounder is more of the same, and Lehkonen has shown promise as a scorer (it's always a question of how they develop, reasonable to say he looks like a 2nd line winger).
How much is enough for an expiring contract that they can't retain (they'd resign him if they could)? To me that's fair value and people only say Sergachev or no deal because it's being done by comparison, Montreal didn't move him (or Juulson) for Duchene and although I do think Tavares is better value it's not gonna happen.

2017-2018 Stanley Cup champions
I think the question is, for what he's offering (size/playoff experience) after the Habs playoff run is her worth 1.9? Time will tell, I would love to see his playoff experience culminate in a pwf type of player adding depth scoring to our bottom six. My feeling is we won't see that King however and think that he benefited from "the right" environment in LA and has since changed (he was traded away for a reason, maybe not a preferred omission but he wasn't exactly getting it done)

Next year outlook with Galchenyuk trade + adressing centre postion
I'm curious about the Galchenyuk trade - Love the team assembled here and would love to get Huberdeau, but what's the motivation on Floridas part to do this trade? What I see is Florida is deep at young center (Barkov, Trochek, and Bjugstad?) so why move a possible LW for solid top line LW ?

Future Habs
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>VANHORVAT53</b></div><div>Duchene trade is the most realist one I have seen. Juulsen trade must be the stupidest trade ever</div></div>
I feel like it's not that realistic for this reason, Those pieces could've been moved a lot easier before (trade deadline) and weren't. Colorado wanted a top defender and I don't think Beau was regarded as such, value wise I'd agree that it seems to be in the realm although If i'm Colorado I don't think I actually make that deal. They don't need a LD in Beau, Lindgren is at this point back-up calibre (we'll see) and McCarron is fine but again they're not looking to bolster bottom six here. It's about defence and to me the only piece they're really interested in would be the 1st draft pick and otherwise they'd be happy about the depth added.
They have a proven top 6, top line center in Duchene - that should return a top defender (they'd be taking a risk on Beau's ceiling skill-level and our 1st wouldn't be super high).
To be fair and add back into the balance, I guess that Duchene is on a 1 year here which would indeed lower his value. (Beau 3 at 2 mil is questionable, he has the ability to arbitrate and I think his point production dictates more like 3+)

Montreal possibility
Also Montreal doesn't need another RD - I get that Trouba has been playing the left side at times but for that kind of deal I doubt they sacrifice the future of their Defence (Markovs replacement, touted as a Hedman-esk). Cap consideration is a fair point but all-in-all the perspective is this, Montreal could've shipped Serg and picks for Duchene (very similar to the above deal) and they'd have filled a much bigger hole down the middle. They wouldn't do that deal (emphatically so by MB), they wouldn't do this deal.

I recognize that this is titled as a "dream" but can I ask: do you believe that the value on Hamhuis is high enough (at 34 years of age, 15 points in 50 or so games) that he be the main piece bringing in Fowler? Not sure about both moves with him involved (Lehkonen & Emelin have value over what is being dished).

Possibl3?
IT would definitely help us right now, improved scoring and not much of a jump in age (Beau looks like an odd-man out on the back-end anyways). Personally not in love with moving Lehk until hes gotten the better part of a second season under his belt, there's a large progression i think usually into the third year generally. All-in-all though it wouldn't be a bad deal IMO.

Trades
I like bringing in Boyle, around 50% for faceoffs (trends a bit over) and has the size down the middle. His point production is really only a tad behind Hanzals (22 points in 54 vs 26 in 51) so all in all if he could be had for such a price I think it's a great idea. Personally that seems fair to me for value, especially when dealing with a potential playoff rival.
Burrows/Edler aren't bad additions but if we are adding an offensive player it really is only a half measure to add someone who isn't boosting top 6 (our problem is scoring and although Boyle/Burrows definitely improve the bottom six's weaknesses and possible character issues, still need scoring help).
Edler I'm unsure of, firstly is he the answer to who can compliment weber and more importantly is he as good as he needs to be (as he used to be as a two way presence). I'm worried that Edler will just end up being a bust that can't really improve our defensive side and hurts us with a higher contract with a NTC.

Habs new lines
Issues with the lineup (cap wise it's 22 man roster and is over, needs to be 23); Hanzal for Plekanec and 2nd is light as far as what the open ask is and the "young center" going back. Love bringing Fowler, he's a missing piece in Montreal, it does seem like over payment with a 23 year old scoring center (Chucky was nearly point a game before his injury this year), maybe another piece comes back to Montreal in that deal.
Good looking roster all said and done but cap issues and questionable player trades in terms of value.

Yeah not really fair for Hanzal - also not close to the well known ask. (it cost something to make them retain salary, to take DD, and when they clearly state they want a young center it's not happening)

And the same will certainly be said about Riberio but at the end of the day when you need scoring touch those two (vanek/riberio) offer it to the team. You're probable right about not resigning Vanek but if he were available for 3-3.5 at a short term I'd probable do it if I'm Montreal. He's a tertiary signing after we lock up the likes of Galchenyuk/Radulov.

haha he was actually a really solid player in Montreal - 15 points in 18 games (10 in 17 in playoffs) and he really was only not signed due to his high price. I'd bring him into the top six for a couple picks in a heartbeat, we need that kind of depth. Although center is the real glaring spot, Hanzal helps alot and Riberio is a risk but with his production it'd be worth it IMO.

To me the real question with the Duchene trade is: can Galchenyuk get his mojo back without MT playing him to develope his defense and instead have Julien play him to his strength (offense)? the shame is it's such a short window of time, but if Chucky gets it back with top line minutes/assingments I think this less of a necessary deal. That said I don't mind it at all, we are getting what we need in Duchene and objectively more as we can't say where development will end on Chucky. I hate seeing a guy who has been drafted and come up through the team moved at this point though, like the team needs help at center but before the injury i don't think we'd be seeing Chucky as a piece we wanted moved. I hold true on that and think the real issue is weakness at center, too much of DD in past and pleky not having the ability anymore (we need a 2nd line center, but upgrading on Chucky is good but it's sort of marginal fix to what the team is lacking).
Not to forget Duchene is coming from a team with talented linemates who are also failing to get it done.

Do you mean you don't think it's a fair trade or just don't like bringing in a UFA for a prospect? I like the trade because to me we're moving a similar player (once hes developed) for a guy who can really help right now (faceoffs/size/general offense). It's a question of where you see McCarron in a couple years and if we should wait for that to happen, I see him as a 3rd line center and that's it (and I hold out that he'll have the speed to be a significant one at that). Whereas Hanzal is young enough to be a real promise at the position if he can be resigned for reasonable amount, to me our only hope on that is he has success here and wants to stay (not outside the realm of possibility as he has committed this long to the 'yotes). Otherwise he asks for something around 5 mil a year for 4-6 and we let him walk, can't afford unless we moved Pleky.
