I agree that Edvinsson is probably better than Walman, and is much better than Oesterle. Given what minutes that third pair is going to be asked to play, I think Edvinsson is probably better served in Grand Rapids. The top 2 pairings will eat up most of the minutes, so do we want Edvinsson playing 13 minutes/night in the NHL with no PP/PK time or 22 in the AHL playing in every situation? My preference would be in the AHL. Steve's comments about Edvinsson in the post FA press conference seem to align with that as well.

I think we agree on Berggren. I was much more confident he'd be in the NHL before the Kubalik signing. I had him penciled into a 3rd line wing role.

Yzerman has said that he won't do cap dump deals unless the player is actually useful to the team.

That limits the selection a bit.

Vince Dunn - Definitively. I'm one of those that say - Don't quibble, give them the Washington pick. The chance of getting something better with that pick is miniscule.
Dumba - Nah, not worth the effort + we don't need more RD we have 4 already.
Johnson - Yes. TB has three good centre prospects that are still waiver exempt , we need to poach two of them + Johnson can play 2C for us. This could be a haul for Detroit.
Cernak - We're unlikely to get him without paying more than he's worth + we have 4 RD.
Eriksson - Not unless he brings a first with him. See top line.
Neal - Only if Lavoie + 2nd comes with him. See top line.
DeBrusk - No, not worth it. See top line.
Kase - No, not worth it. See top line.
Eichel - Absolutely not! He will never be worth the price for Detroit, we're in a rebuild not vying for the cup.
Hertl - If it comes to a choice between Johnson and Hertl, I'd take Johnson and the haul that comes wth him. If Johnson is out then maybe, if he's cheap.

The ones you forgot are:
Jake Gardiner - Will stabilize LD until prospects are ready and will bring assets with him.
Gostisbehere - Will stabilize LD until prospects are ready and will bring assets with him.
Pierre Engvall - If Toronto will send Liljegren with him. We need players in GR and are short of waiver exempt RD that are good enough to do injury call-ups. Worth paying a 3rd or a 4th for them.
