Stepping aside of the Morgan Reilly thing...
DeMelo is playing better than Zaitsev and much cheaper... why would Ottawa pay an extra 2nd rounder in that trade?

What's your plan for the following year? Hall and Hischier will get significant raises then you'll need to sign the rest of your RFAs with not much coming off the books...

Fast Track Carolina w Offer Sheet
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>I don't know how the Canes justify paying Marner 12m, and Aho 7.5m when they have comparable stats this year.
This is what the any GM doesn't want to go into, overpaying for bringing in a new guy, and then telling your own players....market value or below for the rest of you.
Wouldn't the Canes or any team be better to spend 12m on UFAs and keeping the picks?</div></div>
Picks would take too long to develop which is the reason for the fast tracking... and other than Panarin, there's not many UFAs or combination of UFAs that would equal Marner. Although if Panarin signs 7 x $12M and Carolina keeps their picks, that would be ideal.

I wasn't sure on Aho... I don't see many Carolina games and only see his highlights... Not sure if he would warrant more... I did comparable to Tarasenko...

19-20 Prepare for expansion draft
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>WISCO</b></div><div>"A Player aged 18 or 19 earns a year of professional experience by playing 10 or more NHL games in a given NHL season
A player aged 20 or older (based on age on December 31 of calendar year in which the season starts) earns a year of professional experience by playing 10 or more Professional Games under a standard player contract in a given League Year."
So like during the Vegas Draft Anthony Mantha had to be protected because he played 10 games in year one and 60 games in year two.</div></div>
So Fabbro is not signed yet and I will find it unlikely he will go over the 9 games this year.
I would expect Tolvanen to also be kept under 10 games this year (he is at 4 games now and last played in the NHL on Dec 11th).
If Mantha played 10 games in year 1 then that was mismanagement by Detroit to have let him play 1 additional game to lose 1 year of team control. :/

19-20 Prepare for expansion draft
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>WISCO</b></div><div>Tolvanen and Fabbro would have played 2 years full season in the NHL in this situation and would have to be protected. Rinne is not even under contract for the 21-22 season. Saros is a RFA</div></div>
* All first- and second-year NHL players, and all unsigned draft choices, will be exempt from selection (and will not be counted toward protection limits.
My interpretation is if they play the next 2 years, they would be considered second-year NHL players and be exempt.

Tolvanen and Fabbro would be exempted from the Seattle expansion draft.

Agreed he would go to Tampa but not sure he Tampa would be looking for his veteran leadership... or if they have room for his $6M cap hit especially since they have some young players to re-sign.

I get the money stuff, but he's not in it for the money at this point.
I think Johansson either takes a 2.5M x 2 or much longer at much more money, I don't think a 3 year deal is in the cards for him at a low AAV.
Leafs gotta get crafty to open up Marner money, I think you need to target Zaitsev, Kadri, or even Nylander.</div></div>
Because of Dubas' promise to Nylander that he would not get traded, I seem to believe that he won't be traded because that promise was made public. I know he would be the easiest $6M to trade.
But I agree on Zaitsev and Kadri to move if Marleau will not waive his no trade...

I like White but I think he's still unproven in the NHL. He was good on the 2nd line with Stone and now he needs to prove he can still play 2C without Stone. I think he'll develop as a 3C.

I suspect that the sens will not pay for an already established nhl coach... they will likely find some relative unknown in the college ranks and claim how well he works with young kids and their development

The way I was looking at it:
-Canes are looking for a punch up front and willing to trade part of their tremendous D to get it
-Sens are losing for the next 2-3 seasons and need help on the back end as a stop gap. Russel would help their young D and his actual salary is lower than his cap hit

I agree, they are not in a position to spend $10.5M on goalies... maybe they can convince Koskinen to go back to the KHL. Huge mistake signing him to that contract.
What else would be needed in the Pesce deal? EDM is pretty bare in prospects and picks...

I do not think that Stone is overpaid. I do however think that Kucherov is underpaid. I think if Dubas signs Marner under $9.5M, he did very well. Contracts are just going up and things will calm down again after the next lockout and the new CBA will protects GMs from themselves again.

The new comparable will be Mark Stone's $9.5M... Marner will get at least $9.5 and the ask will probably be higher since he views himself closer to Matthews.

If Sens were to take on Eriksson's contract you would have to send a pick or prospect. Especially because of all the signing bonus money and potential lockout :/
