@Oilersid, of course VGK would do that, trade a UFA winger for a franchise goalie under contract for 8 yrs. That's a horrible trade for the Habs. You've basically just given Price away for nothing since there's no way Neal resigns anyways. C'mon, I'm sure you're smarter than that. The problem is the Habs don't need a 30 yr old UFA winger, they're in desperate need of a franchise center. So you're right, Draisaitl was probably a pipe dream, but Monahan is a much more realistic trade in my opinion, especially if the Habs agree to retain $2m of Price's salary/cap hit. Calgary gets a franchise goalie for $8.5m/yr, and the Habs get that highly coveted offensive center under contract for 5 more years at $6.375m + $2m of retained Price salary. I also realize Tavares is a pipe dream, but even Monahan as their 1C would be a major upgrade over what they have now. Sure, it's a steep price to pay, but you gotta do it. If I'm Calgary, I'm definitely listening, since I'm pretty sure a 35 yr old Mike Smith isn't the long term solution, and they haven't had a decent goalie since Kiprusoff. And yes, you're going to need Price to waive his NMC clause, I would tell him "Look, you're definitely not winning a Cup here in Montreal in the next 8 years, so you might as well go back to the West Coast, you'll be closer to your family and to Angela's family, and as a bonus, think of all the rodeos you can check out in Calgary, including the greatest outdoor show on earth, the Calgary Stampede. Thank you for all you've done for Montreal, but it's time to move on, and I wish you and your family all the best".
