Think he could be flipped with salary retention at next years deadline for a 3rd+? If so I would think Detroit accepts.

That I can get behind and your valuations are pretty spot on. I thought he meant just take out Hallander and don't add anything else.

What's the scouting report on Rask? Haven't heard much about him since his almost 50 point days with the Hurricanes.

youth movement
I don't hate it and I like where your head is at but a couple points:
1. I think Raymond, Veleno and Berggren will all see NHL time next season but not to start the year. They all will and should start in the AHL.
2. I'd go Krejci over Bjugstad if you can get him. Deadline asset will be better and on-ice performance will be better while keeping that center spot warm.
3. No reason to buy out Nielsen since you're below the cap as is. Just make the the permanent 13th forward or send him to the AHL.
4. Chase Pearson could very well make the team next season as 4c.
With those moves above you get a lineup of:
Bertuzzi-Larkin-Mantha
Zadina-Krejci-Fabbri
Svechnikov-Rasmussen-Hirose/Brome
Player X-Pearson-Smith
Pretty much just as young, but I think the players slot into their roles and styles a little bit better. If Raymond/Berggren/Veleno are destroying the AHL, Krejci and Fabbri would both be on expiring deals and can bring back good assets at the deadline.

3 way everybody is happy
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Tarlam01</b></div><div>Who? MTL getting what they need. NSH getting what they want from Ekholm and Detroit getting some free assets</div></div>
Unless I'm missing something on Norlinder, which it appears that I might be based on the other responses in this thread, NSH and DET both decline.
Glendening is worth a third, maybe more. Soderblom currently has higher upside than the average fifth given his size, hands and performance at the most recent WJC. I'd probably put his value at a third. While you shouldn't pay to get rid of Byron, it would cost at least second to do so. So you're short on value on the first two assets and probably fine on the last one. That still leaves you short on the deal. It's not massively short, but it's still a little short.
Nashville is getting a mid-late first rounder, a defenseman who looks like he might make the NHL (maybe even as an offensive second pair guy but also probably not), Soderblom as I mentioned above, and a guy in Lehkonen who are a dime a dozen in the FA market. The probability that they get anything that makes as big of a difference in the NHL as Ekholm is minimal. They need to rebuild, but they can get more for him. Generally when you have to add 4 players to pay for one, the values won't be there. 1 top pair dman is worth more than a 4th line forward, middling prospects and a late first rounder.
That's just my two cents.

Take out Hallander and this trade isn't even close. The leafs don't get to upgrade their goalie situation, third pair defense, forward depth, and cap situation for Kokkonen.

Center Help for Coyotes
As a wings fan, I'm indifferent. If this was the return for Glendening I wouldn't be happy about it but I wouldn't be all that upset about it either. It's on the very low end of what I'd be indifferent about, though. I don't want Fischer or the pick but they both have some value, I guess. I think the wings will be able to pull more for Glendening though. If Paul Gaustad and a 4th can pull a 1st then I would think Glendening by himself could pull at least a 3rd+ someone like Fischer.

The wings might trade Ryan for a third rounder, but it won't be for a third rounder in 2023. I know that's not the meat of this trade, but it still won't happen.

Mantha Caufield
If he stays healthy, Mantha is a 30 goal scorer. He's having a down year no doubt but he's dominant when he's on and he's scored at a 30 goal pace the last 2 seasons. Caufield is a still just a potentially elite goal scorer at this point. Don't get me wrong, I think you're probably right, but I don't think it's that far off especially when the Byron contract is thrown in.

Mantha Caufield
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Campabee</b></div><div>I wouldn't worry about whether or not the additional value of Caufield brings enough to pay the wings for taking Byron, as Montreal is not moving a potential 30-50 goal scorer for anything less than a package for McDavid\MacKinnon\Eichel and even then it would be hard for Montreal to accept losing him.</div></div>
See, I think they would if they are getting a 30 goal scorer back because of 2 things. 1, their hot start to the year and potential status as a playoff team. The expectation of winning now seems to be there. And 2. Bergevin is fighting for his job. Caufield doesn't help now, and I really think he wants to win now. I don't think this trade is all that likely, but it's a dark horse I could see happening.

I'm probably with you on that. I was hesitant to add the pick at all. I'm not sure that the additional value Caufield brings is enough to pay for the wings taking Byron, but a second may be too much.

Mantha for Caufield 1 for 1. The 2nd is for Byron and Weal, which has to happen to make the cap work. MTL's later second round pick, pretty close to being a 3rd.

I'm a canes fan so I gotta say Ladd is a great, but, right now that is a pretty fair trade, as both are on crappy contracts and past their prime.
I'm pretty sure he said it's an even trade.</div></div>
I was talking about what mikearky said. I don't think it's an even trade. Both players are useless at the NHL level, but one is on a longer contract at a higher hit.

Not a fan of either team but if the Preds can get that return for Josi they should take it and run. Sergachev is legit, they could flip Gourde and 2 firsts seals the deal. Would be a phenomenal start to their rebuild. Also Tampa should not do this.

Don't think the value is quite there for Detroit, and they wouldn't take Reimer back unless they moved Bernier already. Kochetkov is interesting but the wings have their own version already in Petruzzelli. Sellgren probably won't make the NHL. It's not the worst thing I've seen but I don't see Detroit being all that interested in these prospects. Maybe Drury instead of Sellgren and you might have something, but I still don't think that does it.

Big upgrades on wing and goalie, gets out from koskinen contract, and Merrill replaces Bear fine. The oilers window is now, not when Holloway gets there. The upgrade from Koskinen and Archibald to Mantha and Bernier is worth Holloway and a second imo. The pick could be lowered if it's that unrealistic.

I completely agree he's an offensive 4 and a PP specialist. I just don't think much more of Mantha most days so I don't think the value is all that off. And most microstats aren't team or usage adjusted that I've found, and being on a terrible Sabres team make things like WAR lower than they otherwise would be.
