Laine for Marner just a starting concept
CLB has no reason to add. The only marner deal that is going to happen is one where you lose the trade. No team is offering a package that you will jump at. They aren’t asking Mitch to waive unless they like the package. Marner has no reason to leave and in fact has more reason to stay even if all fans want him gone. If he agrees to a move it will be a situation where the team is still stacked on the PP so he can clean up for a good payday.
And you’d remove the retention **

How to get past the conference finals
Amazing that you could have watched an entire season and not realize we have 2 1C. Are they Barkov? Nope but only barkov is barkov so wipe the tears and be grateful for what we actually have. Chytil isn’t a 3C, Laine isn’t a C, and somehow you move trochek to wing. You sure you watch hockey??

We're in a cap crunch, can't afford a middle 6 winger (probably 3rd liner on our team) making 4.4M and whatever Lindgren would want on a long-term deal, especially when the two LD ahead of him already make 10M combined.</div></div>
It’s definitely a fresh idea. I don’t think it makes either fan base angry but I also think LA keeps the defensive C. They are stronger up the middle with him

Quickest Rebuild Ever
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Tigers8</b></div><div>Factor in that CHI looks to be drafting Artyom Levshunov from Michigan State with 2nd overall pick to play RD. He will jump in right away and make an almost immediate impact. Also, it would be beneficial for Korchinski to be more than a 7D to develop and get exposure.
Skjei - Jones
Vlasic - Levshunov
Korchinski - Schneider
Add a 7th D at around 1.5M.
Give Schneider another 500k.
Likely need to sweeten the pot to pry Schneider away from NYR also.
Could see a team like TOR approaching CHI for that pick at #18 in exchange for their #23 pick. Obviously TOR would include something along side that. But to trade up and select Eisserman, I think putting someone like Robertson on the table is worth a look if you get to pick #18 and he is still available somehow.
Like some of the ideas though, nicely done. CHI has the money to be creative but they also need to be strategic.</div></div>
NYR wouldn’t consider this and it would be a waste for CHI to get Schneider only to play him 3rd pair.

24-25 Vatrano dealt at TDL
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jwg314</b></div><div>you think? how do you feel they manage the cap after next year?</div></div>
Despite what fans feel… real GMs value both of those guys. There’s absolutely no reason to pay to dump them outside of hot take central(fans on the internet). They also have the ability to trade kreider and get a good return for him while he is at the top of his game on a cap friendly deal. Meanwhile the cap jumping 5M+ each year. It’s really not an issue. Lindgren doesn’t need to come back either. Only way they do something like this is if the real plan is to sign Leon to a big deal in the summer

Keeping Kakko for 3RW and playing Vesey on 3LW while cuylle plays on the 4th is a much better option than giving Kakko away. Cuylle is a 4th liner at the end of the day.

If he is traded after July would the Leafs be able to retain on a bonus already paid? I would think you would only be able to retain as much as actually owed at the time of the trade.</div></div>
Yes, they retain on the cap hit and remaining salary owed. So for easy reference let’s say it’s a cool 1M left in salary and the cap hit is an even 11M. They could retain 50% which means the cap hit is 5.5M but the salary is only 500k outstanding.

Are you one of the tards that thought Laf was a bust too? It’s funny how everyone on this site said he was the last few years and now not one of them has the backbone to say they were the ones saying bust.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SMH</b></div><div>The difference is that kakko has already played 300 regular season games and another 44 playoff games, yes it toke Nichushkin years to become the player he is but he also didn't play his 300th NHL game until he was around 25, usually you know what you have in a player/prospects/young after they play 300 NHL games, and for kakko it looks like this is what he is...</div></div>
Ok so let’s say last summer we sent him to Europe for 3 years… we would all be assuming he’s a bust for the next 3 years anyway. “Couldn’t do North American hockey” would be the thread. All the fans would just be saying this about him, Kravs was literally the guy who is a middle 6 in Europe and can’t do NA hockey but the fans pumped him up non stop till he was traded for nothing. The fact that he remains in the NHL at this point over a guy like Nichushkin who was on the same pace is because he’s better than Nichushkin was at that point. While people seem to be obsessed with youth, players aren’t actually at their best till they are 30ish. This is why you need patience. Matthews is 26 and just played his best season of hockey(not points specifically). Actual 2 way hockey and scored a career high 69 goals. And he’s still getting better all around. If you have concerns about Kakko then go through a long list of guys who didn’t pop till they were 30 and see how it was with their 2nd or 3rd team even. Kakko was scouted as a good player not generational talent. He was an easy pick because of his frame and skill that he could handle NA hockey, he has, just not to your expectations of a 2OA pick. Doesn’t mean this is all he will be. But the fact that he wasn’t sent overseas like nichushkin was should really be a positive factor not a negative factor with how you are spinning it.

Thing is. Wennberg was never brought in to be more than a defensive 3C that wins faceoffs and kills penalties. When you look at it through this lens you see he actually wasn’t that bad at all. But we all would have liked to see more offensively

If you only judge a players skill based on the points they get then we won’t see eye to eye. It’s also why you won’t understand how a team like FLA held Panarin off the scoresheet for basically the entire series. Stay chasing is fun, it’s gets the big paycheques like Marner. It’s great for fantasy too. Took Nichushkin 5 nhl season and 3 additional years overseas to get to where he is now. There’s a long list of players like these guys who are given up on or castaway and finally click their development afterwards. I don’t think I could stomach giving him away and then 2-3 years from now he’s nichushkin level. Not like he’s making big coin that we can’t afford and that he doesn’t offer other skills

No, I completely agree with you and have always believed in both. NYR biggest problem is one of our biggest prides… kreider. He’s a god for the franchise in many ways and is unquestionably the best net front guy for pp but we need 1. Laf on pp1 and 2. Skill to play with Zibby, skill that can play more than dump, chase, forecheck and redirect shots. Kakko will be fine

Hahaha I mean the fans love him but he is simply a 4th liner that refs love to call on the fence calls against so I doubt he would truly be missed on that level. That being said the fans would follow it up with 8 years of trading back for him with great overpays just for the sake of it. It’s what they do for all the old players like stepan, girardi, mcdonaugh, fast, etc. NYR should accept this deal purely for the sake that Schneider is taking over the Trouba slot.
