Nashville Big deal Trade thoughts
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Boomer125</b></div><div>Didn't realize he was still out, as for the rest I'm not huge on trading Nylander but the reality is to up grade to a real Top RHD (which Ellis is ) Any combination of Kapenen Kerfoot prospects won't get it done, and as leaf fans we continuously claim Kapenen is a top 6 F so let's prove it. Granlund is a UFA and I see Nash selling him Turris is Turris, Nylander certainly doesn't hurt their forward group and gives them options to change up the top 6 if they feel so inclined</div></div>
True. If it brought in a true top RHD then the deal could work. I'm probably a little biased towards moving Nylander because I love him and Ellis and isn't as flashy a name as some other top RHD. This is an interesting idea though. Technically anyone can get traded for the right price/if it makes sense for both teams.

I've never been a fan of trading Nylander, I just don't see how trading young talented wingers with a decent contract will work out. Also is Nashville in need of another RW with Grandlund/Turris? And when is Ellis coming off IR because Toronto would need him in the lineup ASAP.

For your information...I watch leaf games lol. I know Dermott has been brought up, similar to Rielly and Gardiner being used late in games. I am saying there is no chance Dermott gets used on top pairing full time, when Babcock is still playing Hainsey there even with Muzzin's arrival. I hope Dermott is moved up next season.

You dont pay 7.5 mil to 3rd pairing playing 8-10 minutes.. Gardiner can play right side but he needs babysitter for his defensive mistakes like Hainsey. Also weights out the puck moving part. Muzzin-Zaitsev is two-way pairing playing every situation. Zaitsev is offensive defenceman who was misplayed and looked very good last few games with Muzzin or any other partner other than Gardiner and Dermott is so good both ways.. its pleasure to watch and he looks great on both sides. Thats why him and Rielly together.</div></div>
Negative chance Dermott gets to top pairing with Babcock. Also it doesn't matter that they make 7.5 million...Zaitsev is overpaid and Hainsey is not good

You're right and I don't think Babcock will ever move Hainsey out of top four, BUT why would they need a puck moving partner when all they would do is ice it...think about it lol

Yeah I was thinking B prospect and middle pick was a little much. Everything I've read says 3rd or 4th round pick and roster replacement should get it done. This just shows how even if you send more than necessary there is no risk for an upgrade over Hainsey

Fair enough. I agree the first rounder could be used to help the back end, but if Toronto could add a solid top 4 guy on the right side (and have Babcock shuffle the pairings like so) and then throw in a gritty guy like Simmonds I think that lineup could get rolling into the playoffs and do some damage.

19-20 Leafs Thoughts
I agree that Kapanen is underpaid especially on 4 yr deal. I think Johnsson would only take under 2 million on a 2 year deal as well. Other than those two deals I think the AM and MM contracts are realistic. I personally think it's crazy to assume that MM is gonna demand "10+ million" and Matthews should not be the highest paid player in the league (as some people suggest he'll want more than McDavid). Other than that I like the trade as Zaitsev and Brown could produce more on other teams, especially Brown who after a 20 goal rookie season has been buried behind other players. I also hope Liljegren is NHL ready but Oz could be resigned to fill in 3 paring RHD.

Jensen currently makes 812,500 on a 2 year contract to play in Detroit’s top 4. How much more would you think he’s worth...?

I don't understand why the leafs would want to "lose" a trade. If you wanna include Nylander in a trade you could package him a deal for Parayko instead and get some actual return back. At the minimal one or two picks would have to come back from LA to make it a decent deal.
