Toffoli especially if retained for this year is worth at least a mid 1st +
Not retained its a late 1st +
He's a 30g guy, almost every team could use a guy like that.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NMAvsFan</b></div><div>What the RyJo trade told me was the Avs aren't really interested in moving 1sts for help. They're going to look to take players off cap-strapped team's hands and find value wherever they can that doesn't cost them assets to acquire. A year of 34 y/o Backlund, even at half retained, isn't worth a 1st to Avs brass.</div></div>
Fair with Ryjo just acquired its tough to say, but crazy if you ask me.
He's one of the best defensive C in the league, and his cap hit isn't that bad and would likely extend at a capfriendly hit (lower) to potentially contend with the Avs.
That 1st round pick isn't going to help the Avs go for another cup in their current window, I'd expect the Avs to invest heavily in a C with Landeskog down for next year too.

Flames want futures/picks - Not Grz'ld vets and contract dumps.
You've thrown crap on a wall and expected it to stick.
Sadly Boston doesnt have much of anything the Flames would want.

Terrible trades.
Cgy wants futures, not a washed out Mittelstadt. Buffalo would have to part with their 1st.
Lindholm (extended) is worth way more than Laf who's a bust at this point, and Jimmy "been on every team" Vessey.

Nice cap dump, Hoffman is a buyout target for MTL.
He's definitely not part of any Lindholm acquisition, it would star with MTL's 1st which wouldnt happen.
Oh and CGY is retaining? LOL back to EA NHL

Lindholm trade starts with Jarvis+ and Carolina likely wont move Jarvis so this doesn't work.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JeffSkinnerFan53</b></div><div>Absolutely agree on the Eichel like starting point. However, what I’m trying to say is that star players tend to go for less than one would expect. Look at DeBrincat, Kovalchuk, even Gretzky… The only return I can think of we’re a team ridiculously over paid for a star player around this age is the Jeff Carter trade with Columbus, and we see how well that worked out for them.</div></div>
Every trade is different is all I can say.
Cant really compare a Gretzky/Kovalchuk trade as it happened in vastly different era's of hockey.
DeBrincat you can compare , but Tkachuk brings more than DeBrincat does in all aspects.
More points, more toughness, more nastyness etc.
I think CGY will get 3+ pieces of which are all high caliber/quality.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Joronto</b></div><div>I am not the one who want to trade him for Tkachuk. 😅
Your comment about Willy was inappropriate IMO. "Nobody wants a Nylander his contract" just does not correspond to reality.
Your Leafs view is obviously very negatively connoted - Toronto did not trade Kerfoot until now, because he is a Swiss army knife with an above average point production season for a mid 6 player; Strome just got paid $5M AAV. So it is not all about the cap even it would come in handy.</div></div>
My view may be negative, but its the reality of what the Toronto franchise has been the last few years.
Tkachuk doesn't really tip the needle in terms of what you need, I think defense should be your #1 priority if not Goaltending.
Kerfoot has average point production, he's not bad but he's a desirable asset in terms of what the Flames would need from a Tkachuk trade.
Flames need prospects + picks and need to get younger as they're basically facing a re-build/re-tool.
None of which Toronto can really help with.

for 1 more year after next... lol.
His contract is almost irrelevant.
The best part is, if hes so valuable and the "BEST PLAYER on Toronto in the playoffs" why are the leafs trading him then?
Your playoff success rate is the poorest in the league by a country mile.
Shouldn't you be moving heaven and earth to keep guys who produce in the playoffs?
Fact remains, he's not going to be enough for Tkachuk so we can agree to move on.
Toronto will not be getting him is basically the moot point.

This isn't an Eichel trade though.
Eichel has a career high 82 pts
Eichel's pedigree as a 2nd O/A pick is higher
Center position usually more desirable.
But the caveat here is Eichel was traded when he was about to go under the knife for a surgery only 1 other person in the sports world has received. So the acquistion itself was a huge gamble.
In Tkachuks case, there's no gamble at all.
You're getting a 24y/o, 100pt power forward with leadership, a nasty edge and under a lengthy contract.
Unicorns like this never become available, so a Eichel like return is the starting point.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tetrablues33</b></div><div>That's just plain wrong. We WANT Tkachuk, we do not NEED to get him. It certainly will not take that much, and if it does, the Blues should hold off and take the gamble that he joins as a UFA in the future.</div></div>
That's fine, but whoever he goes to now is a 7-8 deal so he wont be coming your way until hes 31+

Right, but that wont get you Tkachuk is what I'm saying.
A guy who shows up "when he wants"
Has only hit 80 pts 1 time in his career.
Only good if "he has legs" otherwise he's invisible.
You've basically voided the trade yourself.
Teams like NJD and STL have way better offers, Toronto just doesn't make sense for the Flames.
Kerfoot/Max Ellis (WHO??) are just cap dumps and meaningless pieces for the flames.
Sandin isn't turning out to be much, so maybe a B prospect at this point.
Toronto's 1st will likely be late round again so not worth much.
The offer is just not good enough.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Joronto</b></div><div>Seriously what about the contract??? By far the best from the Core 4 and for a capable 40 Goal scorer so affordable. You watched him play more than one time and in clips where he stops skating because he is afraid of the corner battle? I am so sick of this Nylander haters.</div></div>
7M and only controlled for 1 more season after this one.
He's not the best from your core 4, he'd be the worst from the "top 4" which is why you have him as expendable.
The guy is a perimeter player (Just like his dad)
He's never scored 40g even with one of the best players in the league (Matthews) so you cant say hes a 40g scorer.
I've watched him play a ton, he's not that good.
