For the Karlsson Trade - The Leafs would definitely need to add additional prospects and/or picks for $4mm x 4 years of salary retention. Likely Niemela and one of Robertson/Minten or an additional 1st round pick.
For the Zadorov Trade - Big physical defense will earn a premium. A third is not enough. The Flames could hold him until the deadline and get a late first or 2nd + prospect for Big Z.

Question for Flames fans
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>pensfan21</b></div><div>I would try and do a 3rd plus a prospect, but yeah 2nd is probably accurate</div></div>
We will probably hold on to Tanev as his value will not change much as a deadline deal (and may actually go up).

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BenningTruther</b></div><div>so does letting tanev walk in 12 months. not gonna get much else for him. garland is a player with term who an be flipped in a year or 2 and rathbone is a nice young dman</div></div>
Garland's term is not exactly a good thing. He would be the 8th forward in Calgary in terms of depth. Tanev would be the 2nd D in Vancouver. Besides we're paying a very similar money to Coleman as it is, and I don't see anyone trying to acquire him. At this point Garland doesn't have much/any value as a middle 6 winger that's paid around $5M. In the meantime, any team would be happy to fit a Tanev at the deadline.

Why don't the Canucks just flip Garland then? Making one teams bad contract another teams problem isn't usually a good basis for a deal. Garland is undersized, getting paid 5M to produce at the same rate Dillon Dube is producing for less than half the cap hit. Rathbone is 24, 177 pounds and got less games than Briesbois, Burroughs, Wolanin, Juulsen.. That's not a nice young D man, that's an AHL tweener. There is a SIGNIFICANTLY better deal out there for Tanev if they go that route.

Backlund and Tanev are worth more for sure, especially if Calgary retains on them

Realistic Tkachuk deal
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jchockey12</b></div><div>Realistic? Really? I swear I have to say these things every time.
Tarasenko is not going to CGY. He has a no trade clause and he will go to NYC teams or LA for his wife's modeling career.
Kyrou is reportedly untouchable (along with Parayko and Thomas) but take that with a grain of salt.
Also, I really don't think Tkachuk signs for 9.5M. He turned down an 8 year $88M contract from CGY.
Overall this is just way too much for Tkachuk.
Most you'll get is Kyrou and a first.</div></div>
Tkachuk is three pieces at least. A Kyrou, Bolduc, and a 1st probably gets in done. They need someone to replace Tkachuk in the top six in any deal, and Kyrou fits the bill. If you want a good player, you need to sacrifice a good player.
In this situation Calgary can eat some of his salary to get a pick and a prospect from a third team like L.A or New York

Yeah probably, I would be hardpressed to move Tkachuk in an Eichel trade but if he was necessary I would. I wouldn't move Lindholm though. Lindholm is Calgary's only top 9 RHS and was our best player this year

Depends, he kinda blocks Pelletier from coming up and there's no guarantee Brett resigns. Hes probably worth a 3rd but other teams may have more interest

Bennett is actually a center, and its his best position, not sure where you heard otherwise. His defense lines suck Boro should be 3rd pair with Dahlin and Hanifin above him. Flames dont do that trade either. Cant be moving top 4 defense and centers for a winger and a 3rd pair guy. Not a good deal all around
