third line center?
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Lrshaffer</b></div><div>Not giving up Dumolin for Duchene.</div></div>
You would have to give up dumolin or matta to get Duchene as a starting point. For what you would have to give up and with Duchene's cap hit, you better be using him in the top six. He'll disappoint as a 3rd line center. Too expensive either way. I don't think PIT is a good fit for Duchene anyways. He's better suited on a team in need of a top 2 center like Columbus or Carolina.

caps cup year
Orpik for McGinn is good cap management, if Orpik has a badyear this year. If he keeps putting up 200 hits and going +30, I think the Caps pass.
You've got at least 2M more cap space next year (look up NHL CBA escalator clause), but in an average year, since there's been a cap, it goes up 3. So you can pay Carlson a bit more, and with a long enough term, keep him in town.
Getting young UFAs like Sustr makes sense any year.
That's how the Caps got Connolly, a 25 year old now coming off a 15 goal season. I'm not sure I'd trade him or Smith Pelly for Trevor Lewis, who just blew up for 12 goals, as a 30 year old, though. Lewis averages more hits in a year, but DSP has reached a higher total, has scored more goals, and is also five years younger. If the Caps are looking to keep their championship window open, then having younger, skillful players makes sense. Yes, Lewis has 23 playoff points in 75 playoff games, but his best playoff year was five years ago. The Caps recently tried signing a 30 year old Kings castoff. If they want someone from LA, why not save up for Doughty?

If the nhl did the olympics (Canada)
Where is Pietreangelo. and Price will prob start. Allen will be the 3rd guy in net. Kieth is still good enough for the olympics. he prob takes Subbans place. They like to have d-men who don't make a lot of mistakes tbh. Hamonic wont be on the team. Same for Skinner, esp considering guys like Marner and Drouin are rising.

canes future?
One thing's for sure: you do <strong>not</strong> play Justin Williams on the fourth line.
Other than that, your signing values seem about right. You've got a bright future!

fixing detriot
Love it! Everything makes total sense; especially the sheahan deal. Couple little things; Franzen should command at least two 1st rounders though and AA probably would prefer a 8 year deal at that rate. Just the best job though!!

That Athanasiou deal is an insult to him. Why would he sign long-term for so low when he could get almost that much over two or three years as an RFA and then just get paid as a UFA?
