We don’t need to flip him just yet, I’d would be a hefty price to trade that contract. I’d rather wait till we need the cap space, which might be next year

I haven't paid too much attention to the Isles but why is Boychuk scratched? Isn't he one of their top 4 D men?</div></div>
Dobson is already better than boychuk. Pelech-pulock, toews-mayfield is our top 4

He was like 2 years ago. Pulock and Mayfield went above him in the depth chart last year and now Dobson did this year

He won't sit on IR because he won't miss enough time to be IR eligible, you'd need to miss 5 games, he could be back for the trip to Washington

I think Carolina certainly needs a 2C centre. Staal isn’t garbage but that’s a huge drop off from Aho to Staal. I’m not saying Kadri is the solution to the centre depth while others develop(Gauthier) but a centre is definitely a need. With that said, the 2C centre you do acquire needs to be cost effective to even out the fact that you have a 6m centre in the third line.

That Ferland contract is just... no
Idk about the Yamamoto trade from an Edmonton perspective but I like it as a canes fan so I don't really care. The Kuffner trade.... it's intriguing. I think you're overvaluing McKeown a little but I do like the idea of acquiring someone like him, although I'd prefer it to be another RH forward if possible

WOW that Ferland contract, you know he is gonna get more than double that on the open market right?
AHO contract is pretty low as well, just looking at the year he is having i would guess 8.5 to 9 mil

Not a chance you get Steel for that price. The guy is better than half the first round picks in his draft, so the Ducks will want at least one 1st rounder and then some. Not to mention that they are rebuilding and are looking at Steel to be the center of the future.

I agree the struggling ducks wouldn't move a key young piece. also if sending a big package to Ottawa why not for duchene I feel like he'd be more valuable to the team and Ottawa said theyre willing to trade him.

Agreed. Although Stone might fit in their system better since he's very versatile, Carolina needs center depth so I think Duchene might edge out Stone as the better option.

If the all star game was East vs West- West
by no means am i a fan of his, but i think seguin sneaks int here instead of joe pavelski. Blake Wheeler is definitely missing from the right side. Kyle Connor missing. Filip Forsberg missing. Or were you trying to do something where every team gets a guy? either way, couple guys missing here. Eric staal also had 42 goals last year.

possible fix?
Montreal also does not have space to add a goalie, so that part shouldn't be a big worry.
It looks like the main point of this is that trading a streaky, younger 3C in Pageau and a late 1st to get an older, established 2C in Jordan Staal could make the Sens better because Staal is much more effective in a shutdown role than Matt Duchene.
That part is totally on point, and with a new GM coming in to change the culture on a seriousy low-budget team, I could totally see the Canes taking that deal straight up.
But the Sens had a 2C or two, last year who were pretty good, and were out of the playoffs by the deadline.... so you have to make an argument for how Staal is better than the guys they gave up.
I kind of think the Sens need to change their game plan because they've had a ton of offensively talented guys who don't produce because they don't have the puck.
If I thought they had cap space, real or internal, I'd be talking up Orpik for a 3rd, to go along with Pageau and a 3rd for Staal, and then looking at a coaching change. I hear Trotz is available, although he recently got off a plane in Seattle, so you probably have to get on that pretty quickly.

Hurricanes need MAJOR shakeup
I really like this build, but I have two big issues with it:
1. JVR is gonna need more than 5.3M after his monster season this year.
2. I love Slavin and Hanifin, but if I'm the Hurricanes, idk if I'm satisfied with this D corps moving forward.

Thread:
Hurricanes CANNOT have the same roster next season
I think Carolina can afford to trade Hanifin or Pesce for a star forward. Not both. Pesce for lee is interesting. Lee is a phenominally consistent goal scorer, but the Islanders have one good right defenseman, so this gets them on the phone.
I don't know if Hanifin is enough to stabilize the ship in Buffalo, but he could help. Doubt they're retaining salary just for the sake of Carolina having 16M in cap space, and Carolina needs to sweeten the pot to get such a solid two way center back.
Doubt a team gives a third round pick for a 3M AHLer, without giving dead salary back, but vancouver has decriminalized marijuana, if that's where you're going with this? I could very much see the Caps trading Orpik for Kruger, in order to save money. If you want Kruger to work as trait bait with positive value, though, you have to jiggle him to make him look alive.
Rask is worth more than that.
Bigger question: WHY do you want Carolina's roster to be so different from this year? They're tenth in the east with a young, quick, talented team. Trade for a center and a goalie, and watch the kids keep improving.

cup for minnesota?
I don't see this team being any better than the current team the Wild puts on the ice. Intra-Division trades are hard when there is term and skill involved.
Buying out Ennis would be a much better option than paying the price of dumping him. Myers isn't a need for the d-corps, so not really worth paying the price of his as a rental. Spacek is an unknown to me. Copp as a 3C is probably the most needed player of the bunch, but I wouldn't want to lose Zucker's skillset for a 3C.

third line center?
JR wouldn't give Bonino $4 million to center the third line, No way is he going to pay $6 million for a #3C in Matt Duchene.
