Another great trade for JR. Got rid of a struggling Brassard who was gone after this year and Sheahan who wasn't doing anything and making $2 mill for a top 6 player Bjugstad with years on his contract and a solid depth piece in Mccann. JR also kept the 1st rounder so he can still use that to fix any holes

i'm not comfortable with how many picks jr gave up tbh. especially when penguins find their best draft players in the mid rounds. probably will miss out on another guentzel

Ya but its not like they are desperate for those draft picks. Even if those draft picks turn out to be solid players, it will take a few years for them to develop, which would probably mean the pens are at the end of the Crosby and Malkin era. Id rather trade those draft picks for good established players with years on their contract so they can compete for a cup every year

Lots of picks went out the door, but Bjugstad is a very solid player with upside yet. He should be a top 6 guy on most teams, so will be interesting to see what happens when he's firmly planted in the bottom 6 in PIT.

Sometimes it's not surprising to see guys underperform fans' expectations when they get stuck in the bottom 6.

I think it's a very good deal for Florida, but should improve PIT as well. Just feels like a lot of picks to acquire Bjugstad's term.
