Sorry, teams just take on long term cap hits for non productive players....like Okposo just to give the Sabres cap space.

That may be true, which is sad for Okposo but it would give Sabres cap relief. No NHLer wants to end his career on LTIR. They want to play pro hockey till they aren' good enough. (well Lupul was the exception)

No thank you to any of this. You clearly didnt learn from Okposo and dump more money into Stone. Stone is in the same position Okposo was going into free agency, benefiting from a good center, not a great skater, approaching 30. Stone is going to be a regretful cap hit. Risto is not bad, everyone on here needs to calm down. Okposo is probably going to be buried on the IR, so the only team that you can pay to take him are going to be teams struggling to hit the cap floor, and Buffalo is not yet in a situation where they need to waste futures to dump him
