Honestly, if Staal isn't a part of our long term plan, I'd absolutely bite. Might even be an overpayment by Toronto

Nylander can handle center responsibilities in Kadri's absence. Leafs need some grit and some major defensive help in order to make a legitimate run these playoffs. Trading Gardiner is a good start, and reducing Zaitsev's minutes, but I really hope they make a solid trade or 2 to identify these issues.

Honestly I think if you take Gardiner away from Zaitsev, you would see him play better. When Zaitsev played good he was with Reilly because he wasn't second guessing himself. Guy probably has anxiety every time he hops over the boards with Gardiner.

For someone who people keep saying is a great skater, Gardiner can't skate and have the puck at the same time. Watch the games when he has the puck he stops skating and tries to make a 2 line pass and you can see the smoke coming out the side of his helmet. His brain can't handle two things at once.
