Description
At some point, Carey Price is going to tire of nights like the one he had against the Islanders when, despite his heroics, the team can't win. The Habs need to move on from their dependence of Price and he needs to go somewhere where he can win a Stanley Cup soon.

-- Colorado goes all-in with Drouin and Price. Habs get Jost and, presumably, 2 great picks for the near future.

--Anaheim gets needed cap relief and a speedy, young winger while Habs get the #1 LD.

-- Minnesota gets cap relief and Habs get a veteran star Finn to help groom Kotkeniemi, Ikonen and Ylonen.

Which deal(s)?

The Avs deal. Want no part of Drouin and a 31 year old goalie getting paid 10.5m a season when the team isnt ready to "go for it" Avs would have to begin to gut their roster to be cap complaint by adding 16m in cap space with those guy.

Which deals? Avs. Avs can find a lot better value than 13.5m (even with retention) tied up in those two players. And you expect the Avs to give up some prime assets too?
You can be sure than Montreal is not on one of four "trade me to" teams for Fowler.

Well, it's pretty clear Varlamov ain't the guy, so getting Babrovsky is likely to cost $7M. So $8.5 isn't bad. Drouin, for all his faults, is crumpling under the pressure of being in Montreal. In Denver, reunited with MacKinnon and with a better cast around him, it's a pretty good bet he'll be a much better player than he has shown in Montreal. Other than Jost, the would be no roster players involved, so Price and Drouin would be net-positives to the current lineup.

Fowler might balk, but not likely as long as he receives a transfer bonus for waiving the clause that covers the tax difference. Anaheim isn't going to be fun for a while and he's never going to return to being in the top pairing. One way or another, Anaheim needs some cap relief or they'll be at the bottom for a long time.
