Same description as every other team I make, just new transactions.
At the Draft:
Shero sends Greene off to greener pastures and a chance at the Cup in San Jose in exchange for a couple of prospects.
He then completes a trade for Nurse that sees the Oilers getting Santini, Talvitie, Quenneville, a 2020 3rd and a 2020 4th.
He sends Mcleod, and 2 2nds (2019/2020) for Linus Söderström and the Devils run one of the best goaltending duos in the league.
He then trades Vatanen and Carrick to Edmonton for their 2019 1st, and we take Lucic to alleviate their cap troubles. We then immediately send Lucic to Ottawa and retain $2 mil of his salary.
Finally, Shero sends Butcher and a 2021 2nd and 3rd to Nashville for Dante Fabbro.
July 1st:
Shero makes a huge splash and signs Erik Karlsson to a $47.25 mil/3 years ($15.75 mil AAV) contract.
Karlsson then spends the next 3 years mentoring our defensive core and turning them all into studs, before leaving in 2022-23 to search for a long-term, big money contract to take him all the way to retirement.
This also leaves us with a plethora of cap space to sign Hallsy, Bratt, Nurse, Söderström, Nico, and Blackwood for the 2020-21 season, Palms and Smith in 2021-22, and Wood, Boqvist, Zacha, Byram, Fabbro, and Kakko in 2022-23.
2020-21 season:
($31 mil)
Hallsy - $84 mil/8 years ($10.5 mil AAV)
Nico - $49 mil/7 years ($7 mil AAV)
Bratt - $24.5 mil/7 years ($3.5 mil AAV)
Blackwood - $15 mil/5 years ($3 mil AAV)
Nurse - $15 mil/3 years ($5 mil AAV)
Söderström - $12.5 mil/5 years ($2.5 mil AAV)
2021-22 season: Let Zajac and Coleman walk during the off season.
($11 mil)
Palms - $60 mil/8 years ($7.5 mil AAV)
Smith - $14 mil/4 years ($3.5 mil AAV)
2022-23 season: Karlsson, as mentioned above, leaves to find a contract to take him to retirement.
($31.75 mil)
Wood - $7.5 mil/3 years ($2.5 mil AAV)
Boqvist - $17.5 mil/5 years ($3.5 mil AAV)
Zacha - $5.25 mil/3 years ($1.75 mil AAV)
Byram - $68 mil/8 years ($8.5 mil AAV)
Fabbro - $52 mil/8 years ($6.5 mil AAV)
Kakko - $72 mil/8 years (9 mil AAV)
In 2022-23, the Devils would have 14 players for $73.25 mil when the cap will be around $92 mil. That gives them $18.75 mil to fill out the rest of the roster.
*all contracts are speculative and based on what I think a players future potential is.
As always, I am open to any constructive criticism or trade alterations.
