Like, might need a few more years and a little more guaranteed with Hayes unless he’s trying to double dip at 29, I’m thinking he prefer a 5 or 6 year deal over 3, islander fans would argue that trouba trade to be straight up or pulock untouchable
Double dipping was the exact plan with Hayes. If I'm Chevy I'm pitching that the guy gets to play in between Laine and Connor for 3 seasons, pad his stats and become a UFA at the age of 29, if he wants a 5 or 6 year deal that's even better, but a 3 year deal probably favors him even more in terms of scoring the most total money possible.
As for Pulock, that dude is not in Trouba's league. Trouba plays more and harder min/game, is the same age but has 172pts in 401 games. Pulock has 69 in 160. They are the same age, but Trouba has more than twice the experience. If you wanted to deep dive further into the statistics, Trouba kicks Pulock's ass in any possession metric under the sun, and while he's typically been paired with Morrissey, he's also been paired with the corpse of Mark Stuart, Nathan Beaulieu, and Ben Chiarot.
Now Pulock obviously has some value, or I wouldn't bother trading for him, but that's a lot more to do with his contract, contract situation, potential as a top 4 dman, and the fact that he's from MB.
On the Islanders' side if they're interested in winning they are very bad at driving the play from the back end. (Being good defensively and driving play are two different things.) Trouba does the job fine, and is a complete upgrade on Pulock.
This trade basically has two ways it could go.
Trouba is a rental:
You give up a meh top 4 dman and get a top pairing rental dman and a 3rd. Little risky, but very doable trade, especially considering what the Islanders' stand to gain next year. (The East is going to decline majorly, and the Islanders not nearly as much.)
Trouba is an extension:
Trouba for Pulock and a 1st is risky in the opposite direction (for the Jets)
