Don't sign Duchene... you realise that we lose Mete and Domi if you do...
I don't think so. Indeed, my bigger concern would be securing Gallagher and Danault a year further out.
For the 20-21 season, Domi will move from $3.5M to $6M or $7M for a long-term deal. So an increase of $3.5M. Mete will move to a decent second contract of $2.5M, maybe $3M. So an increase of $2M. The cap will roll up -- for argument's sake -- $2M, though likely it'll be a bit more. So the need will be to find between $3M and $4M. I suspect that would come in the form of trading a winger, one of Tatar, Shaw or Drouin, but not until AFTER next season. My
Looking at the 21-22 season, Kotkeniemi, Gallagher, Tatar, Danault and Petry will all come off contracts. That's $19M or so. Obviously, not all can be re-signed. Assuming one of Brook or Fleury emerges, either Petry leaves or Weber is moved to finish out his years with a team that has cap room. If you take Petry's $5.5M and add another year of cap growth ($2M) that could be divided between Gallagher and Danault easily enough. That leaves Tatar and Kotkeniemi. I suspect Tuna will be the odd man out and his $5M will go to Kotkeniemi. This is OK as, by then, Poehling, Suzuki and others who should be taking jobs from these guys.
