Sens fan here. Three thoughts:
There's next to no chance Duchene takes less than 8.5-9.5, and there is absolutely zero chance he takes less than 8 in CBJ. Being able to offer the 8th year is a leverage point in negotiations for CBJ.
Just because Ottawa took half of CBJ's picks at the deadline, doesn't mean they're going to do y'all that huge of a favor and get nothing for it. Get real.
And finally, do not sign Paajarvi. He's got good speed, but he's not good. He's got terrible decision making abilities in the defensive and neutral zones, and he's a black hole offensively (unless he's up against Toronto. He scored like half his goals against them this year). If you're that desperate to pick up a former Senator, go for Brian Gibbons. He's wicked fast, reliable defensively, and shockingly creative offensively. Was a lot of fun to watch down the stretch.
