Oilers say no to that deal. As an Oilers fan, we would lose that trade considering Nikita Zaitsev had an tough season, close to 3 million more money, and we are up against the cap.

Agree with Spencer above, too much cap for Oilers to take on. Gotta think the Leaf add a modest sweetener to Arizona with no retention. (if. Arizona has cap space) The actual cash output is about the same for Hossa and Marleau.

Hossa only costs Arizona about $1m in actual dollars, so they're not worried about moving him. If they need the cap space, they can LTIR him same as the Leafs. Arizona is only interested in Marleau because they're a West coast team he might waive for and they know they can get a premium asset to take him. No one is taking Marleau without a premium asset included.

Kesler would be a perfect trade if Anaheim doesn't think he'll play again and needs to save some cash. You might not even need to retain depending on Anaheim's cap situation and what they end up doing with Perry.
