Description
He could have guys in his system that he is willing to trade that will shake the room up a bit. Rutherford said he wanted a leader or guys to step up. I know it will be hard to pull Williams away from Carolina.. But JR could try. I think an alternative may actually be Letang... And he is talking about Dumoulin being a guy that steps up and leads.. But the logistics and backlash of a Letang trade suggestion is more than I feel like taking on right now. Adding Faulk and Williams after getting Kahun is a nice little re-tool. I think GMJR either does way more or hardly anything instead.. But. This idea seemed to make some sense. Especially since Hornqvist's buddy, Hagelin, just committed to the Caps for four years. If the trade is uneven. Add someone I think will be moved like Jarry or Simon.

Some retained salary here from either Horn or JJ. Maybe up to 750,000. I am still a Hornqvist fan. I never question his toughness or effort. But somebody has to go it seems.

I can't see the pens retaining salary for 4 more years. Maybe on a guy that has 1 or 2 years left.

I agree. With an aging nucleus.. They don't need the vets as much and should strive to get younger, as they have with McCann and Kahun. I'm just gauging this particular scenario with what has happened, the rumors I've seen, and what GMJR has been saying, particularly recently. It sounds like he has at least two more moves left. He questioned leadership of everyone not named Sid.

Cullen should retire. I love the guy but the game is just a little bit past him. On all of the cup teams, there were guys over 35. Cullen, Kunitz, Guerin.. These glue guys made a difference. I think Williams has a run or two left in him. He has a relationship with Rutherford. Why I picked him. I'm sure we will see a couple more moves, one may really surprise us. I'm just not certain on what they will be. One more contract has to leave this unit in my eyes, probably two.

I agree.. But look at what Toronto did with Phil. They made it work. I don't see you unloading JJ without taking an awful contract back or retaining. I pass on the Rask deal in Minny.

I don't think Toronto made it work seeing as they are having cap troubles of their own. I've been saying all along the best way to move JJ is taking back another bad contract.
