I think TOR matches anything under the 4 first compensation and will figure out the rest later. I'd say $11M is the magic number that makes it a VERY difficult decision

Too bad Dubas didn't follow Lou's training and not give any player more money than the team's superstar, John Tavares, if Matthews had accept equal or less than 11 million, than Marner's camp would be quoting 9 million, but the agent's smell a weakness in Dubas' tactics. Thus he'll forever overpay his players by 500K to 1.5 million range.

Possible Future cap problems for the Isles though. Next year PulocK, Barzel, Toews, Aho, Kuhanaki are need new contracts. Just Greiss and Martin have expiring contract. 18M for 7 players including two potential big contracts in Barzel and Pulock.

Leafs are not forced forever to overpay just because they overpaid two players. Just like teams that have underpaid players, they can't continue that precedent forever either.

That Kerfoot contract is 500k-800K over payment and paying Ceci anything more than 3.5 million is an over payment (I know the Sens gave him a qualifying offer @ 4.3million, meaning that was the least amount he could sign for but everyone knew he was already over paid @ that amount).
