No, but paying him the extra $500k to $1M to lock him up long term is worth not having to go with a $7M arbitration award only to see him walk a la John Tavares next summer

Bingo. 500k overpay is really not that big of a deal to lock up a top pit guy...

No. But it gets worse by the minute/year/long term contract signing... Most teams are maxed out now/near/soon. Even scarier, many low budget/internal cap teams are creeping up there if they want to sign their young star RFAs. RFA cap limit has to be addressed in next cba, as well as a 5yr max term that NHL seems to want (and need).
