So you expect ANA to pay for the privilege of taking on your cap dump. At 50% retained, I could see ANA being willing to take on Shatty, but it would be NYR sending us the 2nd round pick, not the other way around. Let me remind you, Shatty has struggled since joining the NYR and didn't exactly bounce back after his surgery last year. He's massively overpaid right now and next season too.

Look at his analytics, he hasn't been bad at all, he played injured his 1st year and was fine last year, just DeAngelo was better. Shatty at 3.25 million, a Puck Moving D-man who can run your PowerPlay and plays the right side is not going to be traded along with a 2nd for a garbage prospect or 6th round pick. 2 years removed from being the most sought after free agent on the market, Gorton is just probably trying to avoid as much salary as possible. Plus the 2nd we would receive is in the 2021 draft, which is not nearly as deep as next years draft.

You say "he hasn't been bad", but he hasn't been good either. He's producing half the points he used to, all while being sheltered and getting mostly offensive-zone starts and plenty of PP time. Fair enough, he was injured in year 1 at NYR, but he didn't exactly bounce-back this past season, putting up less points per game.

I don't particularly care if he's 2-years removed from being highly sought after. Since then, he's been injured, had major surgery and has had a very, very poor season. You can say he'll be back next year, but I've heard that story all too many times and it's never come to fruition i.e. Perry, Kesler, Eaves, etc.

If you don't want to pay to dump Shatty, fine! Keep him. I'm just telling you how I view it. NYR needs cap space and moving Shatty's contract looks like a good option. I think ANA could be interested in taking that contract on, but it would have to be at a price. We're a small market team and need to spend money wisely. Taking a gamble on another potentially broken player isn't good resource management, especially considering we're probably not going to get the revenue from making playoffs. However, if NYR is willing to sweeten the deal, I would hope GMBM would at least consider it. A 1st rounder for the full contract (just like Marleau to CAR - note, Marleau had 1 year left, not 2) could sway him. However, I think it is more likely that he'd accept a 2nd round pick for 50% retained. If you think that price is too steep, fine! We'll go into next season playing the kids and maybe Fowler on his offside. Adding Shattenkirk isn't the difference between us making and not making the playoffs. So why would be pay to add him?

You haven't thought this through and put yourselves in our position and so it doesn't make any sense.

I like when people say you haven't thought this through. Did you even read what I posted? Did you watch the Rangers last year? Our 3 best defenseman were in this order
1) Claesson
2) DeAngelo
3) Shattenkirk

Our defense was a complete dumpster fire, Shattenkirk played primarily with Brendan Smith, who was a total nightmare, so Shatty was on his own. Shatty played well with Claesson who Quinn refused to play. Shatty looked very good when played with Hajek who got hurt and then he played with a revolving door of whoever was left after the deadline and injuries decimated the blue line. Shatty also barely got PP time cause Pionk had something on Quinn and they wouldn't take him off the 1st unit, then DeAngelo had the 2nd PP unit.

If you don't think Shatty is worth his salary, on that point I agree, but for a right handed d-man who can run your power play, has good corsi numbers on a bad team and for 3.25 million dollars he is nothing comparable to Marleau. Marleau said he would not play for any other team than San Jose, the Canes had to buy him out and the Leafs didn't retain any salary. Shatty is at least a 3rd pair d-man, probably a 2nd pair d-man with a quality partner (Lindholm).

The Rangers will not need to send Shatty and a 1st to get rid of him with 50% retained, now if we were sending you Shatty with nothing retained that is a very different story.

Shatty (with 50% retained salary) and a 4th in 2021 for the Ducks 2nd round pick in 2021? If you still don't take that trade, your call, but have fun overpaying for Gardiner... who is a lefty.
