Description

The Rangers start the season like this and hold Namestnikov until the deadline when they will be able to get something for him. Deangelo and Lemieux will probably end up signing their qualifying offers since they don’t really have a better option (and they’re not eligible for arbitration). If the deadline comes and they don’t have an extension in place for Strome, Fast, Deangelo, and Lemieux they should be traded. In 2 years when Lundqvist, Shattenkirk, Staal, and Smith are off the books (and take their 25 million dollar anchor with them) the rangers will be able to give out long term deals to Kaako, Kravtsov, and Shesterkin, and maybe even a dip in the free agency pool. Until then they should keep their books closed.

Alternate option: If someone is willing to take Namestnikov for free (or close to it) I would do that and trade Kreider at the deadline instead because we’ll get 2-3 times the return at the deadline than we would now.

I'd rather not have a 20-man roster. Even with this roster we'd have the cap space to call up 2 guys ... I think Smith or Shattenkirk is bought out and Namestnikov is traded. Idk what we could get for him. At his current cap hit, maybe a 4th or 5th, but it depends on the team, i guess. Aho has potential but i don't think Aho and a 2nd would be enough for Kreider. I'm a Rangers AND Islanders fan and for the Islanders it could make sense ... the problem is, we have to sign Barzal next year, so i'm not sure if we could re-sign Kreider. But at that price, it would have to be considered. And we do have the cap space.
