Preds chuckle decline.

They want to move Turris to free up cap space. Taking Alzner back does not do that.

While Turris is overrated and overpaid he is still an NHL caliber player. Alzner is not. He belongs in the KHL.

retain 1.6 on Alzner and his cap at 3m buyout .
his total salary would be 3m , 1.5 and 2m over 3 years

they wait until next year to buyout Alzner so it saves them 4.5-5m a year long term on the Turris deal and 3m in cap relief this year .

Turris and Salomaki for Alzner Retained 1.6m and Hudon
NSH gets cap relief with MTL retaining to get a better player in return .
Hudon's scored more in his rookie season then Salomaki in his career to date but Salomaki in MTL's weak Left side could be a 3rd or 4th LW rather then 13th forward NSH uses him as

its got upside for both teams as all 4 players could use a change of system and if retaining 1.6m to give NSH 3m -5m in cap savings long term will do it why not

Or they just dump Turris for a mid round pick and be free of him completely

Hell Buffalo is looking for center depth and have a bunch of forwards going UFA next year. Turris for Sobotka and Zemgus makes sense for both. Buffalo give up a pair of players not in their long term plans for a few years of Turris while Nash is completely free of Turris 6m cap hit next year when they need to be.

if they could they would
they just re-signed him and people are as interested in his deal as they were Neals

only way to move it is

A) he has a rebound year
B) find a Backes /Ryan/Alzner/Nielsen level player with a cap teams want out because of bad signings or new systems not working out for them .

dumping Turris in years 2 of a 6 year 6m dollar deal at age 30 is not as easy as '' dump Turris for a mid round pick and be free of him completely ''
23 points after signing you at age 29 wasnt what NSH GM expected but 5 points in 19 NSH playoff points is the standard he's given despite his Success in Ottawa indicating he should have more success being surrounded by better talent its proven more difficult for him then anticipated .

for a lot of Teams they'd be unphased by Turris's off year even though he's 30 even at his cap/term
NSH on the other hand just moved out Subban for Cap Relief to re-sign assets and now have 10 pending UFA's including atleast 7 they'd likely want to see returned on 21 m moving Turris is a lot more logical when put in Context to their GM's most recent response to cap crunch issues .

NSH gave up a lot for Turris and cant afford to be tied to him long term at 6m cap per year if he's not capable of 45-50 points consistently anymore .
NSH team has a lot more tough decisions ahead and say what you want if Yannick Weber can make a career in NSH as their bottom line hitter/shot blocker then Alzner can last a year atleast
