I like the idea of taking on bad contracts for assets, but adding Dman contracts with any term would be irresponsible. The sens Left side D will be solidified long term by the end of the season. Chabot-Brannstrom-Wolanin will all be full time NHL players by the end of the year.

Adding Russell is bad because it takes away Wolanin's spot this year, and means Brannstrom can't come up after Hainsey is traded. Next year it also creates a problem with keeping Dylan DeMelo. Sens aren't going to pay Russell 4mil to be their 7th D, so keeping Melo becomes an issue financially.
