Description
Humor me here, while ignoring the salary cap, how good would a team made up of remaining RFAs be? For the goalies, I chose two RFAs from this summer. I was also short on centers and RHDs, so I had to improvise there. Even with the lack of true centers, and RHDs, I think this team is easily a contender. Werenski is my captain, McAvoy and Point are my alternates. Our coaching staff, to make this easy, is going to be Ralph Krueger (head coach), Dan Byslma (forwards), Phil Housley (defense) and Mike Bales (goalies). Let me know what you think, how good would this team be?

*PS - The contracts are taken from Evolving Wild's contract comparisons...but for this exercise, I guess they're kind of pointless.

On paper, they're champions, but assuming about 2/3rds have contract hangover seasons, they miss the playoffs. smile

I forgot I did this...but you really think they would win the cup against more veteran teams?

Like I said, the cap isn't the point of this.

It's amazing how people don't read and actually try to have a conversation once in a while.

Hedman is joking, hence the awful capitalization.

Yeah... I think they'll all come out flat this year, after spending the summer worrying about their agents and their new houses, rather than training. But if you could get all these guys to play like they played last year, you've got just an insane amount of offense. Laine, on a line with Point and Rantanen, gets 60 goals, and that opens up space for the other two to push for 30. Connor, Marner, and Boeser stay just as solid as they were, together. That third line isn't going to shut down anybody's top players, but it chips in enough offense to keep up. The fourth line can check a little bit.

I don't think age is always an indicator of skill or experience. It's almost impossible to scout for good defense, watching kids play against kids, so teams that need to add defense are more likely to go for experienced professionals, but you can still win games just by outscoring the opponents, and these guys, if they show up and try hard, can do that.
