Description
Jarry is young and has done well at the AHL level and as good as Letang is I would argue that having gudbranson and Johnson on the penguins blue line makes it on par or just above the Oilers. This is a cheap YOUNG goalie that can grow with the team.

Can't argue with getting decent players off waivers, and after the odd contract Smith signed, having a third goalie could save the Oilers money.

Jarry's career stats are pretty close to Koskinen's in terms of GAA and spct in the NHL, and he's a lot younger. Edmonton's only given up 25 more goals than Pittsburgh over the last three seasons, so he shouldn't get much worse moving teams. Boston and Ottawa are 263 apart, for comparison, so 25 is not a lot.

If Pittsburgh gets a good trade offer on DeSmith, they might not waive Jarry or trade him, so Edmonton might have to actually offer a late pick to get Jarry, depending on the market. At that point is it worth it? Maybe. Depends if they're going to play him. Depends on how much they value having a 14th forward. Depends how far along Starrett is.

Is Jarry any better than Starrett? Because the Oilers don't have room for another goaltender at this point, one of Starrett or Wells or Skinner would have to go to make room for Jarry (and that's supposing Jarry clears waivers for the Oilers).

He doesn't clear waivers. Starrett has starter potential and should start in the AHL to keep developing. The other two haven't shown their ready for call-ups.

Jarry is about as good as Starrett right now, but three years old, and an okay backup. Adding him lets the Oilers rotate three goalies, which is usually expensive, except that Smith is paid by the game this year, so it could come out cheaper.
