Description
Can someone please explain to me how the B's can resign Krug, Debrusk, Coyle, Halak, and Grzelcyk and still be able to compete and pick up the players they need to contend? Trade Moore and not resign Miller, they'd still be in cap trouble.

Well, let’s see. I don’t think it’s too much of an issue. First off, bump up the Grzelcyk offer by 2 million. So now, that’s 2.5 over the cap if it is 83.5. It could easily be more. Step 1. Probably like a .1% chance they re-sign miller, and a 0% chance they sign him to a raise. So, erase that 3 million, because Clifton is probably better anyhow. So, you’re already done. That’s cap compliant if you’re buying out David Backes. Personally, I think there’s a pretty good chance Backes is done with hockey. He’s had so many freaking concussions, and it seems like he’s suffering from one right now. He hasn’t touched the ice in 2 weeks. I think there’s an extremely good chance he’s on LTIR for next season. So, that would be another 4 million saved there. If things don’t work out, bridge Debrusk (probably do that anyway, because i doubt he takes 7x5).

So, they should be fine, and that’s even factoring in that you probably have to offer more for a couple of the players you signed, mainly grzelcyk.

Ok. Grzelcyk at 5M? Don't you think that's pretty hefty for a 3LD?

If that’s what he was! He’s been McAvoys partner frequently this year. 5 on 5, he’s flat out better than Krug, and the Bruins use him as such. He played 23 minutes in their last game. His minutes are hurt because of the luxury of having Chara and Krug on the left side, but watching his usage, it’s pretty clear to me that Cassidy trusts him 5 on 5 more than Krug, and respects his mobility more than Chara’s.

I’m not a fancy stat guy, I think they’re really stupid for d men, but people seem to take them as gospel. Last year, Grzelcyks were off the charts (I think it’s a pretty good reason to say that advanced stats are BS for d men, because a lot of the fancy numbers had grizz as a top ten d man in the league when it came to entries and exits)

I think Gryz is incredible but he doesnt have the leverage to make 5 mill yet. Id expect 3.75ish over 5 years or so
